My gravel Frek was originally an '82 Trek 710, all 531. I went for a nice ride with it in the mountains today.

I was kidding. I love that bike. The joke is that it's not full 531, and also not butted. But thanks for the suggestion.

In the true spirit of 531, I put some threads on a Reynolds steerer and cut a slot in it for nlerner today!

Finally put my '82 Trek 730 back together. "Tribute bike" - my late wife bought me the frameset in '85 when we were both poor students, I built it up over the years with mostly 600EX, then found the SAME model/year/color in her size. People noticed the matching bikes on our rides together now and then. No way I'm gonna sell hers. I let mine languish in pieces until just this spring, pulled it out today for a "memorial" ride out to the country, to our favorite rest spot under a huge (and distressed) old willow.

Thank you, darling, for reminding me what a joy it was to ride this bike BITD, and to ride it with you.

Looks like I can get a refund through eBay, but I'd rather have the decals.

Caveat emptor.

Any reason you didn't go to Reynolds?

They sent me replacement 525 decals without any issues - and threw in some spares.

Depends on what they have available I guess.

This option was never known to be available.

I ordered a 1970's Reynolds 531 decal recently from H Lloyd Cycles. No problems. They've got pretty much any Reynolds decal you can think of and an excellent timeline to help you figure out which one you need.

Thanks for the heads-up! I emailed them and promptly got a reply from Andy. And a couple of days later(today), he sent out my 531's. What service!

Thanks jasoninohio! The brake levers are Tektro FL750. I really like the minimal look and how they use road cable ends, but I do miss having barrel adjusters. With the Dura Ace centerpulls, I have to deflate the tires to remove the wheels.

Since we are still celebrating 31/5 all the way toward 31/7 = here's hoping a Columbus Day thread pleases until almost Christmas.

Just sayin'.

Venting again.

eBay did finally issue me a refund on the 531 decals I ordered from "bicals" in Serbia.

But this morning, I receive an e-mail from eBay saying "Item Delivered!" This raised my mood slightly, even though I really needed the decals prior to last Friday night's ride.

I logged into eBay just to be sure they weren't BSing me.

Well... they were and they weren't.

The decals apparently were delivered. But not to me - to some undisclosed address in Serbia (possibly the original seller, possibly not).

Yes, I received a refund, but I'm slightly irked eBay got my hopes up again, and then pulled the backing out from under the decals, to use an appropriate analogy.

Vent complete. Carry on. Maybe I'll order a set from H Lloyd when I'm in a better mood.

I did a 45 mile ride yesterday (5/30) on my 1980 Raleigh Record Ace. I only took two pics, the first one near the beginning of the ride (I loved the sign) and the second at the turn around point on an out and back ride:

This is the only 531 bike I have - 1967 Paramount, repainted and set up as a commuter bike. I have commuted almost not at all since COVID hit, so it doesn't get a lot of use these days. Still a lovely bike.

The top photo is how it is set up now. The bottom photo is how it used to be set up and was taken in August 2007 - I'll let you figure out where.
