I had a Herbie Matchbox car that, just like in the movie, was faster than all my friends' cars on the Hot Wheels track.

Did it have a 1:64th scale Super 90 under the bonnet, like the real thing?

It's really not that hard a trivia nugget to find though; Herbie #2 has been legendary for years because of the Porsche motors that were fitted to it.

The hopped-up Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo vehicles seem to get a lot less interest than TLB's #2.

The bonnet didn't open, so I don't know what engine was in there. It was in the late 1960s when Matchbox brought out their Super Fast cars to compete with Hot Wheels. Prior to that, Matchbox cars had a simple steel axle and wheels that had a lot of friction. I still have my Matchbox track from back then.
