A couple of years back, I had a hornet fly into my mouth and sting my tongue before I could spit it out! That really hurt, and it stayed swollen for a couple days! I’ve tried to ride with my mouth closed as much as possible, since!
I also got stung on the leg earlier this year; I thought it just bounced off, but it stung me in that instant of contact!
I hate hornets with every fiber of my being! 😁

Saw this spider today, it was bigger than my hand. The web blocked the entire path, and the guy I was riding with refused to continue riding along this path afterward..
We are on Miyako Island, a hotter-than-hell tropical island west of Okinawa. If you like big bugs and sweating your body weight every day, it’s a great place.

This one is the the O-jyorou (big Joro), which has yellow only behind its legs, and grows much bigger than the more common variety. When I was a kid, my parents told me to be careful of “banana spiders,” which might be hiding inside bunches of bananas. This is the spider they were talking about. Bananas grow everywhere on Miyakojima.

today I was followed by a swarm. they swarmed everywhere even my front fork. weird. used my head net but they still loved to hover right in front of my face & also collected on the net. riding faster helped, but slow sections & while standing still were very bad
