1985 ST500 Cannondale Stem size

Hello I am having a hard time finding a stem size that the 1985 ST500 cannondale comes with. I'm wanting to raise it up for more comfort. Does anybody know what size it comes with? And maybe where to get a taller one. Thanks!

Normal head and steerer tube so a Nitto Technomic will get you the height. They can be pricey at times, but sometimes they are reasonably priced used.

It should be a 22.2mm diameter where it goes into the steerer and either 25.4 or 26.0, to match the bars you want to use.

OK thanks for the reply! Do you happen to know the size of the bars that are on it? I think they are the original ones. They are stamped with belleri st etienne.

No, I don't. Maybe someone who knows will respond. If you have the original stem the 22.2 is often marked, maybe the clamp size is marked as well. If it is marked, it would probably be on the part that is inserted in the steerer so you would have to pull it to read it. I would guess it would be 25.4, but that's just a guess. If you have access to some calipers, just measure them.

If you plan on regularly sourcing and installing components yourself, get some basic calipers too. Otherwise a competent bike shop can help.

Keep in mind that raising your handlebar may also require replacing cables.

I’d be very surprised if they aren’t 25.4mm. 26mm bars are rare and more race oriented as well as newer. But get a pair of calipers and measure them.
