Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Been there. Just curious, do you use clipless when riding in those conditions?

I do. I use clipless for everything. Just got new SPDs for the mountain bike. Old ones got loose on the shaft so I started using the really old ones I had saved. These were really beat up but still spun ok. They were very loose on retention, though.

So I put the new ones on and took a quick ride. Much harder to get out of and I had to adjust one cleat. Bigger ride Friday I was lucky to clip out a couple times, then the cleat screws came loose and I almost fell. Got that sorted and today got them muddy and it made me feel like a novice. I'll figure it out.

bampilot06 what happened?

EDIT: nvm, saw that it was your teammate's bike so I'm less concerned (still hope he's ok). Sounds like the race went well outside of that - nice

Local club is having a social Mt Hamilton ride tomorrow, to see the snow.

You normally don’t have to ask me twice to do Mt Hamilton, but brrrrrrr. It’s currently 31.6F at the summit.

What do you think? Go or no go?

SJBC?

I'd stay in the garage... but that's just my proclivities . The climb sounds great, the descent not so much.

No, Western Wheelers.

I’m still tempted, can always turn around if it gets nasty. I descended the other day when it was 42F, and that was fine. Except for the poor visibility and wet road.

I hit snow on Hamilton in May a few years back. Man was I surprised. Took it super easy on the summit and during the beginning of the descent. You will love it.

I ride outside with a guy who does centuries every Saturday on Zwift. And .50 centuries a couple times a week. I think he's nuts! If can do 30 I'm Dore for a couple days.
