Since I swapped the 130mm axle to 135mm, I decided to check my work against the original wheelset - 105 hub was closer to the non-drive side and the wheel was not centered between the chain stays. I made some adjustments and was able to get it closer to centered with spacing one each end of the 105 hub matching the original wheels. Now time to get a chain and sort out the rear derailleur.

Did some bargain shopping and have new Shimano 11-34 cassette and HG-601 chain on the way for $60.98. For that price, I can wait a bit for them to arrive.

Spent a little time with the rear wheel in preparation for the new cassette. I shifted the entire hub assembly 5-6mm towards the drive side of the bike, dropped on the cassette and mounted it on the bike. Now to figure out derailleur/shifter setup...

What are you thinking of going w/?
On my Multitrack, I think I'll be doing an XTR (M950) RD, setting the bike up for 7 speed. I love 7 speed because it of course indexes well, but if I had to or wanted to run friction, it's got enough space in-between cassette cogs to make shifting a little more confident. I'd had 9 speed on friction before, and its a bit too tight for me.

Made a few minutes to work on the 730. (As much as I like the name Dadillac, Curbie seems to be the best option for this one.)
I centered the wheel between the chain stays and worked to set up the rear derailleur. Maybe I’ll get it out of the basement for a ride this weekend.

All done! New cassette and chain installed and everything adjusted up. The Microshift Centos shifters are very nice. Hoping for a test ride tomorrow.

I grabbed a couple of miles on the 730 while riding around the neighborhood. Other than needing to slide saddle back, the fit is quite nice. I'm amazed how smooth and easy rolling this bike is just riding around the subdivision. Even with the heavy Schwalbe Marathon GT Tour tires, it is easy rolling and nimble. Other than being a bit small, it's a great bike. The Microshift Centos/105 combo work great - snappy and consistent shifting across the entire cassette. I do think a 46/30 165mm crank would be a great match for this bike.

Another update on the 730 - I took it out on the Ohio to Erie Trail yesterday and grabbed 10 miles. Everything works very well together and it has a very nice ride but have the following observations - some obvious and others I had not considered until this build.
The great debate is size - I think it is too small for me. I'll try a longer stem and see how that impacts the fit.
- The Microshift Centos stuff works really well with the 105 5800 but unlike the Shimano shifters, Microshift will only shift to a higher gear one at a time. It will shift multiple gears (3 IIRC) on the downshift.
- Short stem makes the steering twitchy - read about it but never experienced it... now I get it
- Saddles matter - spare vintage Trek saddle I used is not comfortable for me
- The 170mm FSA crank will get replaced with a 165mm if I keep it. I have a replacement but need the BB to go with it.
- The Alivio brakes work very well - some of the best rim brakes I have experienced all for a frugal $35.
The great debate is size - I think it is too small for me. I'll try a longer stem and see how that impacts the fit.

What size do you usually ride? I've got a smaller MultiTrack, and I think you are on the right track, thinking about top tube length (aka stem fit) over seat tube length. Bike looks great. If you decide to move it, someone will be getting a nice rider for sure.

On a bike like that I would run anywhere from an 80 to a 120 or even 130 stem. Admittedly I don't have a multitrack, but all my vintage mtb's run 100mm+stems and they work great on the road. With miles of seatpost I might add.
Seems like the ultimate commuter/bike path/ rider.

My Cannodale Quick 1 is a medium and I've been fit on a 52 Synapse. I'm 5'6" with a 29.5" inseam and a longer torso. I'm thrilled with how it turned out and with a saddle swap, move to 165mm crank, and some additional adjustment it should be a solid ride.

On a bike like that I would run anywhere from an 80 to a 120 or even 130 stem. Admittedly I don't have a multitrack, but all my vintage mtb's run 100mm+stems and they work great on the road. With miles of seatpost I might add.

I had it out again today. If you asked me to describe how it rides, easy like Sunday morning is what comes to mind. It’s comfortable, easy rolling, and sooper smooth. There it is…Curbie is easy like Sunday morning. 🤣

I agree. That works well for me, too. My Singletrack has too small of a frame for me. It has a 21” top tube when my other bikes tend to be 22” to 23”, but I have a 110mm stem on it and a mile of seat post. Whenever negative thoughts intrude, such as maybe I do have too many bikes and maybe I should re-home this one because it’s too small, I go for a ride on it and find myself grinning from ear to ear.

Swapped saddles (Specialized Toupe) and installed a Bontrager rear light. My headlight gets moved between the bike of the moment.

Took it for a quick ride around the neighborhood and the stem change is a winner for now. Steering response is much less twitchy and I am more comfortable. I think something between the two would be ideal but I'll live with this for now.

Took Curbie out for a ride over the weekend and the stem change/saddle swap made all the difference. We rode 7 miles exploring the bike paths of Westerville and now I get it - these are really comfortable bikes, even with the heavy, numb Schwalbe tires I have on it. The GP5 grips feel out of place so they will get swapped out for something else. Under $30 including shipping, I'm considering them.

Mondays are WFH for me and I could not resist the the beautiful weather here in central Ohio. Curbie was the bike of choice since the Quick 1 is down at the moment. Strava says I covered just shy of 12 miles and averaged 13.9 MPH for the entire ride. I set a personal best on one segment and did not even try. I continue to be amazed at how smooth and easy rolling this one is. Every time I debate selling it a ride changes my mind. This will stay until I find a similar frame in a larger size. Now I'm curious what I would do wth lighter tires installed. Hmmm
