BUT (overly-broad generalization alert) there's been a lot of crazy $%&@ happening on numerous campuses over the last month, and I've concluded that a good number of utes need to learn about consequences.

So we are planning to head to LA for Heidi’s graduation but we just got news she has been suspended from USC for participating in the recent protest. She did nothing violent but the administration seems to not care. She filed an appeal with the university but apparently there is no due process as this is not a government run entity. I am suspecting she will not be allowed to graduate. She is going to pieces over this. Sad!

The late Bob Cook winning the Acton road race in 1977. Greg Lemond won the juniors race. Tomorrow we will ride the course on our ride. Probably.

I don’t believe she broke school rules. They say she brought some wood onto campus that was used to make some barriers used by the protesters. I suppose that is providing material support to those who did break the rules, possibly. Suspending her summarily seems quite vindictive but it’s not my university. She sent in an appeal and we have to follow the process. Sigh.
Have to see how it plays out. Hopefully, there will be some rich and influential parents raising enough Hell that the school will relent.

In other news, we have a gully washer this morning and scattered showers the rest of the week. I'm hoping to find a window here and there but it doesn't look promising. May be bike maintenance week.

I'm sure that you've read every thing available in the news. What little reading that I did last night was that they were warned that there would be consequences if they rebuilt the encampment. Bringing wood onto campus may have been problematic. As for identifying people, I saw pics of cops scanning(?) student I.D.s.
Have to see how it plays out. Hopefully, there will be some rich and influential parents raising enough Hell that the school will relent.

Poor Heidi is very upset and angry about the whole thing and even if they allow her to attend graduation, she may end up skipping the event anyway. Stay tuned.
We leave for LA tomorrow late afternoon.

I remember taking this photo. What you don't realize is that the eagle's initial dive was from about 70 feet in the air, and from my distant vantage point it appeared the eagle was diving directly at the heron. And yet the heron was as unconcerned as it looks now. I braced for the carnage.
The distance can play tricks on you because clearly the heron is still unconcerned about the eagle zooming by, so they aren't nearly as close as it appears.

Stage 1 "lap it up" series on Queens Hwy: Dropped/29, quit 10 min in
Evo CC Lucete Express "Sprint" race: 1st/8
I lined up for the first one unprepared. Had been on the bike for about 5 min, no warmup, head wasn't in it yet. Competitive series too, so I guess that's what I get for not respecting it! After 10 min over 300w (~4.6 w/kg) of mostly closing gaps from dropped riders, I found myself with 11s to bridge on a downhill. Not gonna happen. But that's ok! Legs had plenty left and I wasn't too fazed by it. If at first you don't succeed - try, try again!
Second race, I was warmed up and ready to dig in. Hard start shelled it down to 4 of us for most of the race. Things were getting easy so I threw a couple of attacks in, and found myself with 5s each time, but they bridged. The last attack was reeled in about 2 min from the finish, but I was able to recover and it looks like I had the best sprint. Nice!
