Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I never opened that thread because it seemed like a mundane topic. After seeing Indy's post this morning I went and read it. New heights for Larry.
I gotta hand it to him, he keeps surprising me.

VO2 max intervals this morning, "just because". Seems weird since I'm not training for anything specific this year, and well, they're hard. I think I just wanted to test myself and see how I responded.

I rode:
1x4'
1x3'
1x10'
1x3'

Hard starts and then I let myself settle into a moderate pace that was a few watts below target by mid interval. Was able to push up at the end and hit my targets each time. The last interval it wasn't so "intrinsic" and I sort of had to press the issue (pun intended) to hit my target, gasping at the end. Running out of AWC.

Good workout!

Perhaps this the arrival of the fabled #dadwatts

My volume is down 33 - 50%, but my power is not really that far off from my best. Def. a higher fraction of intensity in my total volume as a result.

I know it's a longshot, but I really hope Cav can get another sprint win at the TdF!!!

I did a sew-on leather bar wrap on Mrs. Peel, which was a PITA, but looks great. I only did it because that's how the Lotus Supreme originally came in 1982. It's not especially good padding, though probably no worse than the cellophane bar tape of the era. Leather bar tape? Why? It probably dries poorly, it probably stains easily, and it probably rots if it doesn't dry out after a good soaking.

Once you did, you run into a typical "old city" problem - streets that run at oblique angles to each other, and curve, and where often more than two streets cross at an intersection. Between that, and the 30' separation between Summer St. and the rest of the area, I figured I could get lost in 3 dimensions instead of the usual 2.

I'm listening to some jazz fusion on Spotify this afternoon. 2 tracks from weather report I found acceptable from the black market album. Title track and Herandu. I better stop soon, it might make me crave weed.

Black Market is sweet. Really everything from Mysterious Traveller through Mr. Gone is pretty good. I go through phases where I'll listen to each of those albums successively.

Now I have the bassline from Barbary Coast stuck in my head, what an ear-worm!

I get the impression that each "school" is doing their own graduation. A good friend's daughter is graduating from USC today, too (Cog Sci), and will have a ceremony. Not sure where.

Good luck with Heidi's situation.

I have no comment about cav, cavs, vo2 or leather handlebar wrap or other undisclosed topics.

This Spotify list might be sus. The have the soft parade by the doors on the playlist. More psychedelic rock if I were to slap a genre on it.

The stuff I used was the Brooks tape. It's not a single piece of leather - several sections of really thin stuff attached to a base material, maybe 2 or 3 very obvious butt joints in the leather veneer.

Didn't look good, didn't feel good, didn't wrap well either. Was a constant battle of stretching it enough to lay down but not too much so that I snapped a piece of $75 material.

Sew on is classy as can be in your application.

I attempted to send a message in a bottle this morning but it didn’t make it. Our housekeeper arrived from a smaller, outlier village. They have been without power since Tuesday. And no power means no water. No internet since yesterday. This morning we had no internet, but later learned it was due to sabotage by another company, so we’re being told.
Meanwhile, the feds tell us to expect mote of the same, while temperatures remain high( at least through next week. May15, they say, begins hurricane season. In the past it had always been June 1. Wishful thinking mayhap

My preferred tape for final wrapping (once I'm happy with things like brake lever placement, cable runs etc.) is Fizik Microtex 2mm. It has a nice leathery look while also being reasonably tough. It's minimally stretchy so it takes some effort to wrap cleanly, but I never worry about it tearing.

I, of course, can clearly see the other side, being the codger that I am, and no skin in the game. I was a senior in high school when Kent State happened, and of course I saw it only from the other side from that perspective.
Best wishes for a workable outcome.
