REI Co-Op ADV 2.3

Does anyone here have any direct experience with this bike? They're on pretty crazy sale at REI right now and my brother is looking for something a little more heavy duty than his Cannondale Synapse 105.

I have other Co-Op bikes that I'm familiar with, but reviews on this one are slim and the closest REI is over an hour from me. I'm not exactly eager to spend that much time goofing around to go look at one first hand on his behalf. Trying to gauge if it's worth his time to go and look at one.
He's in GA, not too hilly but he has some good trail systems nearby he'd like to hit up.

What he said. That is a smokin' deal, and REI is about the best retailer imaginable.

I havent ridden this bike, dont know of anyone with it, and havent ever seen one in use.
With that said, my local shop has a couple and I have seen it in person many times- it looks like a solid option for the component spec.

- Modern flatmount brakes and thru axles on frame and fork
- Ability to take a genuinely wide gravel tire(a lot of rei brand adventure bikes in last 5 years are limited).
- Quality drivetrain with a good wide range of gearing.
- Tubeless ready wheels.

A couple concerns are-
- The dropper post that is stock is a solid basic dropper. But is it really needed or helpful? A basic carbon seatpost that is good quality is $40 and will cut over .5 pound off the bike's total weight.
- The geometry is...a bit unique. Its a pretty long and low bike- the XL size is only 592mm stack and 404mm of reach. If one of the sizes legitimately fits you- then perfect.

Curious how your local shop has them ?, I thought they are house brand at REI and only sold thru REI ?

Yes. In addition to the ADV 2.3, my local REI has other bikes on sale at pricing not reflected online, so he might as well go take a look.
