Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Matching Bike to Outfit

Okay OCP experts, I have a question on matching. When selecting outfits should I be concerned with keeping aligned with a team that uses the bike brand I own, or is simply making sure colour co-ordinates enough? I ride a Cervelo Soloist, but in Australia Team CSC clothing is kind of hard to get (Pro Bike Kit won't ship here due to a trade arrangement). I actually have more time for Davitamon Lotto but of course they don't ride Cervelos. Is wearing DV outfit acceptable when I ride a Cervelo? If it helps my boots are blue and will match the DV outfit!

There's a bike store in Canberra that has CSC kit so it is around. I've also seen it available on eBay.

Now having said that if you support Davitamon Lotto then wear their kit. The only mismatch that would make me wonder is say wearing full Giant Kit on a Specialized or Specialized kit on a Trek and so on.

Regards, Anthony

Hmmm... last time I rode with Trek gloves, Cannondale bibs, Giant saddlebag, Specialized shoes, Giro Helmet, and a Canari jersey.

Not sure what my point was.

Oh yeah. OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO WEAR THE CSC STUFF! That's why they invented Ebay. Find someone that'll ship worldwide.

Finally someone at a shop noticed that most of my stuff matches. Blue frame, blue bar tape, blue glove, blue jersey, blue do-rag... and blue Accelerade! The noticed the drink in particular. Not OCP, though, trust me (mostly Performance brand clothing, heh).

Yeah, seriously, I never got that. In fact, I go out of my way to find bike clothes that have *no* logos whatsoever. It's ridiculously hard though; I've managed to get a couple great Nashbar long sleeve jerseys that are just solid colors without a single word or logo anywhere on them, but they're a rarity. I hate being someone else's billboard.

Apparent speed= blur factor X actual speed

The more words/logos you have, the more blurry you seem as you whiz by someone, the faster you seem.

I too like the non flashy clothes and I do go out of my way to get shorts and jerseys with nothing on them. However, I love seeing people with flashy jerseys and shorts, just not on me.

I think they are like Harley's. If its loud, then the driver can hear you. If you clothes are loud, drivers can see you and you are safe.

Logo-covered jerseys can be nice. Consider the four "fancy" jerseys I have:

- Montauk Century '05 jersey
- Livestrong jersey
- Official TdF yellow jersey (birthday gift )
- My latest addition, FC Barcelona jersey (no joke!)

I rode the full-length (145+ miles!) Montauk Century in 2005 (2006 too), have personal reasons for the Livestrong jersey, I've been a TdF fan for 20 years, and a fan of FC Barcelona just as long. Nothing wrong with that, eh? As much as some of you claim to be tired of seeing pointless flashy jerseys, some of us are tired of the whining / judging.

I have a merlin jersey because, getting a free one was the only discout I could negotiate. Thus wearing it is consistent with my personal ethic: Do not wear the jersey of any team or manufacturer unless you are paid to do so.

Just buy a new bike that matches the clothing you already have, and send the Soloist to me. You've demonstrated to me that she needs a better home--it's for her own good.

You can get multiple bikes to match your wardrobe. Of course, there's the cheaper route with sticking with neutral colors, which go well with just about any color.

whats with this?...most teams have sponsors, the sponsors are advertised through the design on the team kit(uniform)...also youll see alot of times after races, the team will wear hats or certain clothes with their sponsors name on it...cycling teams are all about sponsors...youll also see all the sponsors on the team car.
