Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

how do you measure your bike?

Hello all,

I hope this isn't a silly question, but I must admit to being confused. I have a 56 cm bike that measures 56 from the center of the bottom bracket (BB) to the top of the seat tube (ST) 57 including the clamp. I was on eBay, and saw a 56 that was said to be measured from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the top tube (TT). My "56" only measures 54 from the center of the BB to the center of the TT.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Mike

Some people use the center to center measurement and some use the center to top measurement. You have to know which is being used to really know which size frame they have.

It's not how *you* measure it. It's how the manufacturer does. There's no standard.

For example....Cannondale & Trek measure their frames center to top of seat tube. Litespeed measures their frames center to top of top tube. Cinelli measures their frames center to center of top tube.

Email the guy at eBay and ask him to measure the seat tube from center to center. That is from the top of the seat tube to the center of the bottom bracket circle.

Center to Center= center of bottom bracket bolt to center of top tube where it crosses the seat tube.

You're not missing anything. They're both correct measurements.
