Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Welcome. Sorry to hear of your crash. Hope you recover quickly.

The weather was great here in Hilliard, Ohio. Partly cloudy at times with a sprinkle now and then. I went on a training ride for 50+ miles. No pics, just riding in Franklin and Madison Co.

100.1 miles/4:54/20.4 mph--outstanding day for a solo century in West Central Indiana. Weather was great, about 80 degrees with little or no wind. First calm day we've had around here in quite awhile and I took full advantage! This was easily one of my ten-best rides ever, and it made up for the fact that I'd not ridden for three days prior, owing mostly to family commitments, and some crummy weather. Anyway, I got home and cut the front lawn (with a Lawn-Boy push mower); now I'm really toasted and need a good night's sleep! Great day, though.

Well today marked my first ride. I just purchased my bike on sunday and went out for an easy 15 mile ride at 8am and then a 3 mile fast paced ride at 6pm. Im hooked.

56 mile club ride, but i always ride to and from the meeting point, so about 60 miles total...

i bonked on saturdays (54 mile) ride, around the 44 mile mark, because it got much hotter than i thought it was going to be and i didn't have any Endurolytes on me. so, i decided to rest on sunday and ride today, and the end result was a much better ride. it did get hot today, but it wasn't nearly as humid as saturday, and i added 3 scoops of Endurolytes to all of my bottles...

todays ride was pretty hilly, at least for long island, but it was definitely worth it in the end. the only bad thing about the ride was that 2 people got flats, and they don't drop riders, so we had to stop and wait both times. i just thought it was funny that the ride started out with 13 riders, and at the end of the ride there were only 6 riders left, you do the math...

Scouted a potential new commute for a job I'm interviewing for soon. Then off to West Seattle. Broke a spoke on the way back over the bridge, limped to the International District in a low gear. At least I got to eat a tasty Vietnamese tofu sandwich while I waited for my ride. I guess I probably could have made it all the way home but given my luck with wheels I didn't want to push my luck.

Went out with the wife for just her 2nd ride since October and pushing out our son at the beginning of April. Did just over 19 miles with ~1500 ft of climbing. Pretty slow pace so I did it in my big ring. Its great to have my favorite riding partner back again.

Rode 68 miles on Sunday.
Worked Monday. Would have biked in except I needed to stop at the garden center and pick up several bags of compost.

I rode to the hardware store twice, had to get a new kitchen faucet, got the wrong kind first, so I had to go back. 12 miles. Then later rode around town, 7 miles.

4.9 miles, from my house to the county park for a church picnic. Was a welcome relief after the solo century the day before.

30.2 miles in "The Great Race," Northern Indiana's traditional Memorial Day collection of outdoor events that includes running, kayaking, rollerblading, and road cycling. The road race this year included about 100+ Cat 1, 2 and 3 riders; the "Citizens" (myself included) pulled up the rear. Saw teams from several nearby states; as for my experience, it was great being on a 'traffic-controlled' route with beautiful weather, humbling roller-coaster countryside, and much drool-worthy bike hardware to stare at.

I did the cottonwood 200 this past weekend so about 195 miles most of it at a moderate pace with about 50 miles worth of heavy hitting.
