Wondering if anyone else notices that cycle shorts and shirts made from synthetics stink even after it's washed?I noticed even new stuff by the second wash start to get smelly faster?Is it the quailty ?I use the mid range to the cheaper stuff.Is there cotton stuff out there?

it's the nature of synthetics. try washing in some woolite, works pretty good for me.

I went to Home Depot and bought one of those 2 gallon white buckets. Its the smaller size. I fill that with cold water from the garden hose and add some detergent. I do this before the ride. Then when I get back from the ride and the jersey is still sweaty, I immediately soak it in the soapy water and kind of scrub it a bit.

I wipe down the bike and that's enough time to complete my hand wash and rinse of the jersey. Presto: clean and not smelly. Just hang where the sun shines and you'll be fine.

fix

Febreeze makes a detergent called Odor-something. A half cup of that mixed with your regular detergent removes all scent problems. I swear by it.

My kit always smells really nice after a wash. In fact it rarely smells badly after an all day ride.

its because synthetic fiber are hollow, and natural fibers aren't. therefore, bacteria can live in the hollow fibers even after garments are washed. as soon as you put on a synthetic garment and it reaches a certain temperature, that "fresh mountain scent" is gone.

Use vinegar instead of fabric softner. Also works great for towels!
