Rain on the way in to work makes me hesitate (or simply ride faster ).
Rain on the way home? Who cares?

Ride. 50% isn't much, the chances of it not raining are pretty high. I consider it a rainy day if the odds are greater then 80%.
The weather stations are covering a very large area so the chances of raining being 50% in a large area means that the chances or raining in the small part of that area that I commute on are at most 50%, probably a lot less.

I keep lightweight packable rain gear in a pannier on my bike at all times. I ride in anything short of a tornado warning. Depending on the situation, I may try to leave a little early or late to avoid a thunderstorm. Most of the time, I just ride though it though.

Ride. If it is under 50 degrees I wear a rain jacket. By the way I just biked home from the office and did not see any rain even though at least a dozen people at work told me I should not have ridden today.

50% chance means that more likely you'll get some water on you. When you hear a percentage, I don't think they mean that's the chance that any water will fall. Rather, it's the chance that you'd have water fall on you if you're standing at a random point in the forecast area. But bicycles move, so you increase your chances.
It wouldn't occur to me to wonder about this. If I stayed in when every time there was a 50% chance of rain, I'd hardly ever ride.
Besides, what's the big deal with a little rain?

If you really worry that much about the weather, drive a car.
My only concern is heavy rain going into work, (this time of year working inside a steel shop building with no a/c, with the humidity--i would never dry out), other than that who cares. I welcome a nice summer shower on the way home.

I will ride if the chance of rain is less than 50 percent. More than that and I don't. Why? Because I live in Florida, and we don't get "spotted rain showers", for the most part. We get thunderstorms. It's the tropics. My commute is long, and there's nothing fun about riding home in driving rain with lightning crashing all around.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. Unless it's July, August, or September there is ALWAYS a chance of light rain showers
I'm getting used to it (just been here a year), and fortunately it's usually so light that you hardly notice it. On the days when heavier rain and high winds are in the forecast I might catch a ride in the car with my wife, or take the bus.

too funny...
Here is the weather forecast for Cocoa, Florida for today through Halloween...
High 91, hot and humid with 40-50% chance of afternoon showers. (and I do mean EVERY day)
My solution... just ride. stick your perishables in the waterproof trunk bag and deal with the rain if you get it; enjoy the ride, rain or shine.

I'd assume that NC in June is still quite warm, even in the rain. For that reason, you'd probably be much happier with a change of dry clothes rather than a rain jacket.
When you get home, clean your bike real good. If it happens a lot, get some fenders.

I don't know you but I would assume you are made of neither sugar nor salt. Nor are you the Wicked Witch of the West (even if some of us ride her bike!). You won't melt in the rain.
We're in a semi-dessert so YMMV, but at least here 50% means it probably won't happen. Heck - they forecast 20% on a gorgious day with not a single cloud in the sky!

If its on the way home I choose to just get wet. If I am planning on going to some place, I bring a rain jacket and put on it on when it starts raining hard.

use soap when getting wet
Here in the N.W. it rains nearly every month. Right now we have temps in the 80-90's so its tough acclimating. I just wear wool in the cooler rainy months coupled with a rain jacket especially if its cold. I stop riding when it gets to about 30 degrees because of icy roads or snow. Otherwise I try to ride all year. A little warm rain is nice.

Personally I like to avoid riding in the rain. But that's because I live in San Diego and it hardly ever rains here.

I bring my rain jacket every day. It doesn't weigh much, and I just strap it to my rack. It's just a poncho anyway, and it does a pretty good job keeping the rain off. I've ridden in some pretty heavy rain and managed to stay mostly dry with it.

I don't care about being wet, or muddy, or anything else for myself, but I'm very paranoid about rain and steel. I have a "rain bike" that I take at the first sign of clouds. I know a guy who takes his entire drivetrain apart, cleans and relubes it every time it rains. How to get over these issues?
