Carnage! Broken TIME ATAC pics inside.
MAH SHIZ BOROKE HUNTING KRILL!!! SHOE PULLED OUT EVADING HUNGRY HARP SEAL!!!
EDIT:
I got these new on sponsorship in 1996, first generation TIME ATAC carbons. They've outlasted at least six bikes (including a mountain tandem), four or five pairs of shoes, countless pairs of cleats, took me through big rides on three continents, and have been ridden practically every day on fixed-commuter duty for the past 2 years.
The one time they were overhauled in 2005 the insides still looked awesome. Even the grease was still in good shape.
I wish all parts were made this well.
I was at the Chinatown side of the Manhattan Bridge yesterday when my foot flew out of the pedal. I thought my cleat was just really worn:

Thanks for posting this. I was trying to decide between Time ATACs and SPDs. Guess I now know to avoid Time ATACs if they can just suddenly break like that.

So what now--I was always under the assumption time ATACs were the ****. Is this under fire? What is going to be the BFSSFG heralded clipless system now?

Hahaha, sorry guys. I'm just trolling. ATN posted those pictures with a full explanation on another forum before posting them here, so I already knew they were 12 years old.

Tima ATAC last a long time, but they will wear out. The same thing happened to my first pair. I'm still using my second pair, though the left only works on one side now. I can't look at it now, because I left that bike at a friends house, but I dont think it's cracked on top, but the spring is broken. In that picture you can see the metal is worn away, much thinner when it broke compared to new. Pretty durable pedals though, which I guess is your point.

there is a reason why they make replacement springs.

the spring pins are threaded internally, so you can thread a bolt and washer in there and pull the pin out.

Talk about a bland pedal catastrophe story. I wanna see some head-over-heels endo off of the bridge or car surfing through Manhattan. Hell, I pulled out of my Crank Bros. pedals when they still had the silca gel aroma.
