any ideas how to keep your private parts warm?
hi all,
I just started winter cycling! it's -15C over here today and it doesn't take long to get cold, esp. in the below the belt area. Anyone out there has solved this problem ?

umm, wear pants ?
srsly though I never understood peoples complaints. it is the top of my thighs or the
top of my butt that gets coldest. the junk never gets cold.
I use 1 pair normal cycling shorts
1 pair ultra thin silk long johns
1 pair thin wool long johns
1 set of winter cycling tights, the front from knee up is a windblocker
this is good to 20 deg.
lower than that I change the wool to a thicker wool
below zero I throw it all out except the cycling shorts and use snowboard pants and thick wool
anyhow, sounds like you need the outer layer to be 100% windblocker

Just take a heavy sock, fold it in half, and tuck it down there. Not so far that you're sitting on it but enough to cover the twig and berries.

Ibex also makes some windfront underwear. I bought a pair on sale but haven't had reason to use them yet. Basically... windfront only goes so far most of the time I wear a pair of breathable rain pants over my regular work clothes and that does fine down to about 20F any colder and I start wearing wool tights under the work clothes. But the rain pants block the wind just fine.

I wear a padded cycling short designed to go under pants. I cut the tags out and I can't remember the brand name off the top of my head but I've seen them at several shops so they are pretty common. They would be way too sheer to wear alone. Over them I use some fake-wool long johns and then regular pants. Add some wool socks and Lake boots and I'm good to -10. I think it's the cycle-short padding that really does the job blocking the wind and insulating you from the seat. I've never had a problem from the waist-down/ankles-up.

Why fold it in half, when you can just put your "thing" inside it?? Hehehe Seriously though, a good pair of thermals is a good idea. When it's -15 degrees out, the lycra stays in the dresser drawer though!!

Haven't tried it, but ... how about one of those chemical hand warmers (that works when exposed to air) tucked in between a layer or two (not directly applied to skin
