Best places for cycling in Europe?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd like to hear y'all's recommendations. Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

norway ranks pretty low on that list.

Here's a pano shot I made wholly with my iPhone, hence the terrible technical quality.

It shows the sun at 1:30AM, shot right outside Bodø, with the Lofoten archipelago far off in the distance.

Riding here is great for me, but I'm of course biased.

botto: Of course, Norway can be expensive, but at least now it's, what? 30% ? less expensive than last year for you Americans.

I say do it all man!

Settle yourself a class action suit where all the stakeholders get a check for $3.73, and the attorney (you) get a cool $500k. Take 5 months off, May - September and go ride Europe. Italy, France, Norway (where you'll rent a Fjord Focus), Spain, Croatia, Chernobyl.... ok maybe pass the last one. Just do it.

Another vote for France. If you're looking for a relaxing and beautiful ride, get onto the canal tow paths in eastern France.

wow- a lot more love for Norge than I expected!

If you are going in the summer and want something more off the beaten path- go north. I lived in Denmark & Norway and summers there are amazing. The food and the culture aren't the same as southern europe- but different strokes/different folks. I loved it, and I hope to move back in the next few years.
