TdF Stage 1...
Not a shock. Cancellara looked so damn strong in those last few K. Anyone think he has a chance at the overall?

I wouldn't put that in the title. Put Tour results, spoilers.
Some people are gonna watch it when they get home, and be upset when they find out just by getting on BF who won.

Cancellara is awsome.
No GC chance at all. Contador and the climbers will take at least a half an hour out of him in the mountains.

But having Contador do so well versus Armstrong (and Kloden and Levi) really makes it clear that the Astana team leadership should be his until he cracks.
I think that Lance will recognize this after the first mountain stage.

Anyone else shocked by this?

I'm a Euskadi fan boy- and I didn't see him placing anywhere near this well... especially not in front of D.Z. Turns out Mikel got 3rd in the spanish tt champs in '03, but I remain totally shocked.

Did anyone notice Liquigas' top 2 riders? This might be the biggest surprise--white jersey anyone?

Al put 22s into him in 15k..Lance can't climb with him and if they both keep level on performance +/- over three weeks Al should put more time into him on the 40k TT. Then of course is Ventoux where Al should hold a huge advantage. Again this is supposing that nobody gets sick, injured or crashes. All things being equal Alberto beat LA in a discipline that LA has always excelled in and Alberto has traditionally considered a weakness. When we get to what Al does best I can't see Lance getting the better of him.

I was also impressed by the times put in by some of the pure climbers today. Both Sastre and Andy Schlek will own Armstrong in the mountains and they are lurking not far off. Sastre started quietly last year too, and look what happened on Alpe d'Huez , plus Andy is the clear leader of his team this year and should be able to make a much more strategic attempt at overall.
