I forgot my helmet :)
Got about halfway to work and went to scratch my head and realized that there was no helmet on there. I wear a cycling cap/sweat band anyway so I don't feel the helmet directly on my skin. I think its cause I had a slight change of morning routine and put the cap on in a different room where I had left it to dry.
Can't say Im missing the helmet. Im just hoping for a hassle free 15 mile ride home.

I do that pretty often, but I usually notice it before I'm off the street I live on.

Been there, done that. It seems that like you, the headsweat I wear and any disruption of my morning routine both come into play. Fortunately, that's a rare happening.

I've done it and not noticed till I checked my rearview mirror and saw... no mirror. Feels weird. But nice.

Pretty much a weekly event for me. I know it's silly, since I haven't fallen off my bike in 10 years, but every time I notice when it's too late to go back, I spend the rest of the day worrying about falling, to the point of paranoia. I'm a much happier camper with my bucket on my head.

Funny how people forget their helmet with a slight disruption in routine, yet if their pants were in the laundry room as opposed to their closet, they would manage to cope.

Once I start getting arrested when I walk down the street without my helmet on, it'll probably attain a higher level of import for me to remember.

Question here: I live only a ridiculous 1000ft from my work yet I still ride to work. I can actually see work from my house. Would you wear a helmet for that short of a distance? I have to ride no matter what. I hating walking.

My post was extremly facetious. If I'm on the bike, the helmet is on my head. When I'm not riding, it sits on the floor in the back seat of my car. I never ride without it.

A few weeks ago I had the opposite happen to me. I got a few blocks down the street, and said "oh sh*t, I forgot my helmet!" I did a U-turn, just to realize that I actually did have it on. I guess I'm so conditioned to it I don't even feel it. I did another U-turn. This all happened right in front of a gorgeous girl walking along, probably thinking to herself, "WTF is wrong with himi? Why would someone ride in a circle in the middle of the road?"
Normally I wouldn't have bothered turning around, but I had planned on some errands after work, which take me on some pretty scary roads.

This morning I got out of the building's garage before I realized I didn't have my pump or repair kit. So I went back upstairs, got that, and went down to the bike. I started out again and realized I didn't have my helmet. It was a heavy caffeine day.

I made it home in 1 piece too. People were driving nicely. The bus that almost creamed me yesterday gave me plenty of room, drivers were generally attentive and polite.

Couple of weeks ago I was running late for work. I mean REAL late, so I decided to take the car. It was as I was getting into the car that I realized I had my bicycle helmet on...
The way they drive around here, I should have just left it on for the added safety benefit.

I've forgotten mine a few times. The realization always happens with the exact same thought process: "Ah, it sure does feel nice with the wind blowing through my hair. Wait, why do I feel the wind blowing through my hair? Ah, crap..."

Oh and I've come off my bike a couple of times within 20 feet of my door... black ice!
