Yup. There are a few papers that suggest that HRV could be used to identify thresholds (like, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7845545/) but I think they may be oversold.

I tried that a few times with a free iOS app from Marco Altini. It came up with an HR slightly higher than where they put my lactate concentration LT1 when I had it tested. However, you really had to use some imagination to see that inflection point on the lactate curve. LT2 was clearer and coincided fairly well with my FTP estimate at the time.
[Edited to add:] Apophenia is the tendency to see connections between things that are unconnected, or patterns in things that are random. I tell the students that when they're hunting for hypotheses, we set our tolerance for "type 1" error high, but we must circle back and do formal statistical inference to make sure we weren't drinking our own Kool-Aid. I think using HRV and DFA alpha 1 for threshold detection right now is sort of in this category.

Oh crap. I just got back from a business trip and I left my TICKR in the hotel room. Hotel hasn't seen it, though maybe they will find it and ship it back to me. So now I probably need a new one. Given issues I ahd with the TICKR (mostly posted about it in that other thread, I think), I might try a POLAR....
It works great. The only minus is that the chest strap clasp seems cheap and maybe not that robust and it joins in the back, meaning you have to put it on backwards and then rotate it around to the right position. Kind of annoying.
It couples right away to my head unit. It has to be moistened before it couples to my zwift app, but then it works fine.
Time will tell about reliability as compared to the TICKR.
