Save the date!

Wanted to give an update on Classic Bicycles Auburn 2024. Building on the show's success in 2022, the event returns to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum June 7-9 2024 in Auburn Indiana.

The event's focus is on vintage lightweights which includes racing, touring, and track bicycles. Modern production lugged steel and vintage steel mountain bikes are also part of the fun.

There are seminars on Friday and Saturday, a banquet Saturday night, and a show and swap on Sunday. The museum itself is a major part of the fun. The roads in the area are quite nice; in 2022 many folks got together with friends and informally explored the area on their own. There are also some other great car museums in the area to explore.

Classic Rendezvous legend Dale Brown is expected to attend and will present a seminar! And Guy Apple who currently heads CR will be there too. And it looks like Maynard Hershon is also expected to present.

I'm thinking of riding with some friends from Bowling Green, Ohio to Auburn and back. No definite plans yet, but speak up if anybody else is interested.

I'm seriously thinking of doing the Auburn Show. I've been to the museum which is fabulous & the drive from Minneapolis is not overly long plus I have relatives south of Chicago that I would visit. I like your suggested ride. Since I am of a rather advanced age, the distance is perfect.

Most roads in the area have very little traffic. I did find at least one where I was uncomfortable with the amount of traffic. But after a half mile, I turned off it and onto quiet roads again. My point being that the roads are in a grid pattern, impossible to get "lost" and if you don't like the particular road you are on, you can exit it after only a mile at the most.

I grew up near Auburn, just across the state line in Ohio. A lot of Amish live in that part of Indiana, so many of the busier roads have wide shoulders to accommodate the buggy traffic. Some of the shoulders are paved, but many are gravel. If you are on a bike, be sure to watch out for road apples.

So if I'd be driving in from Ohio for one day, would Sunday be the best day to come? Swap meet would be fun and I assume all the bikes would be on display?

That's what it looks like to me, although the website is pretty vague. I'm firming up plans to ride from Bowling Green Ohio on Saturday then ride back on Monday (85-ish miles each way). Some friends have expressed interest but no commitments yet.

Sunday is the day with the bike show and swap. There going to be some bike displays on Friday and Saturday (actually possibly Saturday night along side the banquet). But if you can only make one day, Sunday is the day.

Classic Bicycles Auburn is going to be amazing this year! Below you see Rich Gangl working on a frame that will be exhibited in his stellar tribute presentation of bicycles raced by Eddy Merckx. The bicycles are either vintage machines (not actual ones ridden by Merckx) or current re-creations of the machines down to painstaking details. In addition to the bicycles on display, Rich will give a presentation diving into the specifics of the machines based on his countless hours of research. And there will be some great Merckx history as well! This is only one of a number of amazing displays and presentations that will be at Classic Bicycles Auburn.

WOW This is coming up fast! I’m trying to figure out a way to easily and economically make a little sign to post some information during the “Concourse de Lemons’”.

I’m going to get some Frog Tape to spruce up the edges but in general is this too small? Too cheap looking?




I could cover it in some Houndstooth wrapping paper or maybe just get some plain blue but trying to keep cost down

Bikes on display at the Philly Bike Expo

At Auburn this year, each bike entered in the Concour at the big show on Sunday June 9th will have a pre-printed sign. We'll print all the signs in advance and will have a picture frame for each attendee to borrow in order to display the sign. This is what I did at the vintage bike display in Philly and it seems to go really nicely. Folks, of course, are welcome to have additional materials next to their bikes such as the sign Bianchi Girl just made. I really like the graphic Bianchi Girl posted above of the Who. I think we need that next to the bike! While things need to look professional, we all need to have fun!

What I like about the signs used in Philly is that the bike itself is non encumbered with things hanging from it. Plus all the signs look consistent. Other signs here and there next to the bikes liven things up a bit.

I need to look at vendor space and show bike layout. But it would be fun on Sunday, if there is room, to actually have a Concourse de Lemons. In the car world, it's all the rage. On my riding loop there is an AMC Gremlin in lovely condition that myself and friends often ride past. Very few of those survived and it's just silly fun seeing it out there. The survival rate of the very best cars and bicycles is pretty high. But some of the "Lemons" are gems in their own way and fun to see.

If there isn't a Concourse de Lemons at the main show in Auburn on Sunday, folks on Friday will certainly be welcome to display their "user" bikes at the resto-mod pop up display during the seminars.

Oh - need to mention. Up until recently, bike display registration was only open to Classic Bicycles Auburn full weekend attendees. That preliminary registration period is passed, and now folks attending only on Sunday can also sign up to display their bike (s) at the big Sunday show. There is an approval process for bikes, but we're fairly easy going. Folks often seem reluctant to enter really nice bikes as they fear the bike isn't "perfect" - not much in life is. We want bikes that are of reasonable quality but we know folks love showing off their pride and joy so we try not to be overly selective. We just don't want bikes that are way off the mark.

There are also some limited swap spaces available (and more may open up later as well as we play around a bit with space allocation based on bike sign-ups).
