Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We got tired of constantly opening the door for Jackie, so today’s project was installing a cat/pet door.

She was initially skeptical but already has the hang of it.

Flew to Boston today. Travelling for business means you stay in a fairly generic hotel, someplace fairly generic, and you usually end up eating in places that are fairly generic. So, here I am in Boston, a place I''ve only ever been once before (also on business), and I could be in Oklahoma City, for all the difference I see.

On the plus side, the brand new reproduction Shimano Sante brake lever hoods have now been ordered and as soon as they arrive, I'll put the new Cinelli stem, the Highway One bar, and the brake levers with the new hoods on the Circuit, and with luck it'll be wonderful.

If you are a baseball fan, I see the Red Socks are at home this week.

If you like seafood, supposedly “The Daily Catch” is really good.

In my area, cats that go outside don’t survive very long. Coyotes. Even during the day.

I see coyotes several times per year on my rides to mission trails. Saw one last MTB ride in fact, didn't even think to mention it. Big, healthy specimen too with a nice thick coat and a streak of red over the tail. Handsome!

Hopefully I see one again tomorrow morning.

My cat lived outside every day when we lived in the canyon and I saw coyotes in the yard more than once. I was more worried about him going after a rattlesnake. People dump animals in that canyon and you're right, most of them don't last very long. I think my cat was dumped and he started hanging around our house. He was friendly and I just kept him.

I used to feed some of the feral cats and there was one who didn't want anything to do with people. I tried to give him food but he wouldn't even get near it. I saw him for 9 years. He'd be walking around with a gopher in his mouth and he'd ignore me.

I yarded most of the day today. Got rid of a bunch of agaves, got stabbed by them many times. Mowed and edged the lawn, pulled some weeds, Replaced a couple of irrigation valves. Put an irrigation controller on a valve to fill the pool...

Tired and still have some PVC glue on my fingers.

I saw no coyotes on my hike today, but I did see a road runner and a couple dozen quail.

Wait, that game was in the City of the Angels. Must've been a Padres fan invasion!

City slicker alert.

I've helped a few times in recent years installing mulch at the church. A member has a jumbo trailer and picked up lots at a place where they grind up tree waste to produce mulch.

A few straight hours of that carp is enough for me.

The last 2-3 weeks I substantially increased my prednisone intake to try to stabilize my joint flareup swings.

Achieving a anything more than a three-hour stretch of sleep has correspondingly become a treat.

Fun times.

Sort of like a C&V thread. "What did you find in the dumpster today?"

Feel for you. Seriously. My father was on prednisone for RA for several years and I saw first hand how he managed it. On the one hand, it was a miracle drug for the way it allowed him to move but he also had to deal with the side effects of long time use.

Hang in there.

Lovely morning on the MTB, unstructured, mostly EZ. Felt lazy at first and just enjoyed being outside in the cool morning. I rode the techy bits in the middle quite nicely and even cleaned a tough technical climb that I have a ~50% success rate on, sweet. Last time I put my foot down like 4 times, lol. Felt a little spunky on my mostly-downhill ~2.5 mile road transfer back home afterward, so I gave it some gas.

Tomorrow, using some PTO to get a long ride in, aiming for 5 hrs of mostly z2. Long rides are a rarity these days. Gonna try to start nice and early, so I can be home to care for baby and give Liz a break for most of the day.
