Any DIY Vertical Bike Stand Plans Out There?
I just bought my first bike while simultaneously moving to a tiny apartment with a roommate. They are not particularly happy with my bike being in front of the washer/dryer constantly. I think the best way to store it would be vertically, however, I really don't want to spend $100+ on a rack. Does anyone have any plans to put together a vertical rack, be it 2x4s, pvc, etc? I can borrow tools, however, I'm not handy enough to put together my own plan and I would need the store to cut my pieces for me. Any advice on storage in small places would be appreciated, thanks!

With those parameters I would just look for a leaning type rack on craigslist. I see them all the time in the $40-50 range.

Here are some ideas - https://www.google.com/search?q=home...w=1280&bih=847
If you want it vertical and flat against the wall, some of these you can just turn sideways, or build slightly different so they are. Some of these have the instructions if you follow the links.
There is always craigslist or ebay too.

have all the necessary woodworking tools already?, if not there are readymade lean against the wall 2 bike racks .
essentiallib2 vertical supports, but at the bottom there is a diagonal footing , so it leans against the wall , and the bikes lay on cradle arms
attached to the vertical rails.. sort of wooden ladder like...

You could fasten a 2x4 onto something that's already on the wall, like a shelf or some existing hook, then put a couple of long hooks onto the 2x4. Quite makeshift, but would work...in theory.

I have one of these. Well built, works great, especially for the cost. With a couple of bikes on it, it is almost art! The GF would differ on my definition of art however...
I looked into building a leaning type stand with PVC and once you factor in the furniture style PVC connectors you need & pipe, a DIY/PVC stand is about the same cost as this stand.
