Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any news on Ultegra Di2?

Is this still 'vaporware' or is there anything official out about this and when or if it will hit the bike shops?

It seems like it's always going to be out soon, whatever that means. I could be wrong but don't believe it will be all that much cheaper than the current Di2. I'm guessing $3400 for the full ultegra di2 group....

Hasn't shown up at any distributor listings yet if that's the question. Usually they add listing without shippable stock months in advance of the arrival of new product. Methinks you have long time to wait.

If it was to be released for 2012, I think they're kinda running out of time to make an announcement. Actually, I imagine that it's already too late if they wanted it to get spec'd on any non-custom built 2012 bikes unless they're shooting for a 3rd quarter release.

BDop mentioned they have already supposedly shown OEMs. The big PITA with the show circuit lately has been how Interbike is POd because the "late date" means there are no big announcements - that they all happen at Eurobike. I have a feeling some major players are probably looking to push "back" some announcements this year for an Interbike release.

If it's even remotely a possibility of happening for next season we will see it a plenty at Interbike.

Thanks guys. Do you reckon if/when it materialises it will be as a derivative of 6700 or as a new 6800 or whatever number they decide to assign to next generation of Ultegra?

What could they possibly do to Di2 to make it a high-end (DA) version as opposed to a lower-spec (UT) version? I'm presuming Shimano will filter the current DA version to UT, maybe give it a different shade of grey/silver. Maybe reduce the size of the battery for the weight weenies? Battery technology may of advanced since the original version so as to allow same run time in a smaller package.

It has been shown and supposedly is ready for booking (I didn't attend - not on my radar for 2012).

This has been an issue for a few years; Which show to announce at? Gamesmanship by the big brands is in play. Who knows, it could even have been a move by Shimano to force Campagnolo's hand and get them to release their electronic group.

We'll see.

So, does this mean we're going to be subjected to "when is Ultegra Di2 out" threads for the next 12-18 months?

Oh, and almost forgot... https://lmgtfy.com/?q=ultegra+di2
