Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The full size acoustic ones are so big and louder than I want, especially if I was learning and living in an apartment.

In 6th grade when I first started, I really wanted to play the violin. I’m left handed and being public school they didn’t have anything south paw. The violin felt so tiny I thought I was going to break it. The bass was already claimed but four bigger guys. She handed me a cello and it felt natural. Learning to play a right handed cello allowed me to play right handed guitars later on in life. South paw just feels so weird.

Speaking of risks for older guys, I had to have words with the young man shoveling my driveway yesterday. He wanted to do it his way instead of as I wanted it. I like to shovel my driveway totally clear, bone dry, because it's a 25% grade and any frozen residue scares the **** out of me. I can't afford to fall and re-injure either of my shoulders, neither do I want to break a hip. I haven't been to the gym since January so my body is in no condition to absorb any sudden impacts with the frikkin ground, Hellooo!

But this numbskull is going to argue with me that he has plenty of experience shoveling snow. I finally had to tell him that when I'm paying him I need it dome MY way. And he's no kid, either. There's something wrong with that millennial generation, I tell you. SMH

I haven't ridden with him, but I don't think he's a daredevil MTBer. And he's in his 40s, so not old.

Same.

Fortunately my driveway is not 25% and it is shoveled bone dry.

Maybe he is from one of those southern states where we imagine what it is live shoveling snow and can only think of one way to do it?

I haven't shoveled snow in over 40 years. I don't think you can even buy a snow shovel around here. I'm good with that.

If we get snow, everybody just stays home for a day. It just magically disappears by the next day.

Nice! Always better to do the right thing and sleep well at night.

Curious if you've ever used this site for sailing gear: Sailing Equipment, Parts, & Supplies | Vela Sailing Supply

Company is owned by a very good friend of mine. Their running rigging work is on par with APS (RIP).

Haven't use them, but I met the guy somewhere. I think maybe he was a boat coach when I took the week-long North U/Colgate Trim and Tactics course in Florida.

APS was a terrible loss. We loved their store. I think the only custom work I got from them was a beautiful set of tapered spin sheets. These days, I get all my rigging from a buddy whose boat I used to race on and has a day job as an engineer.

Many years ago I got a penicillin shot (I think?) and almost passed out. It was weird. As far as I know I'm not allergic.
