Classic Rendezvous West - Vintage Bike Show
Hi to all,
Classic Rendezvous West - Vintage Bike Show - Saturday 19th October 2024.
Located at the US Bicycling Hall of Fame, Davis California
Here are the basics on the bike show, ride and swap:
*Admission/Display to the bike show is $10 to offset facility rental expenses
*Vintage bike ride 9:30-11:30 Saturday
*Swap opens after 9:00 Saturday (this is outside the patio area)
*Vintage bike show opens at 12:00 on the main floor
* Things wrap up at around 4:00
I think there will be enough display area for about 35-40 bikes, if there are more folks that want to display, we will figure it out. There will be parking within two blocks and there is a farmer's market next to the facilities for lunch. More details to come on how to sign up for display, swap etc.

This sounds like fun: a swap meet, a vintage ride, and a bike show what else could you want. Plus my son goes to UC Davis so I have another reason to go. I should be there.

Great news! Will forward the info to the local vintage enthusiasts, including the CA Eroica types, as well as the Davis Bike Club. Glad to see another reason to be in Davis that weekend in October.

There will be more than one ride for the weekend
I have been working with Guy to host a ride on the Saturday of the event. I have a 35 mile, mostly flat route drafted that will begin and end at the HOF building. A few of us rode the route last week and it seems mostly good to go with a few small tweaks to make it more enjoyable and eliminate a few confusing twists and turns at the beginning.
Got some feedback about the timing of the Saturday ride and I will work with all involved to make sure that it doesnt conflict with the opportunity to hunt for good deals at the swap meet. When the route is finalized, I will link to a RidewithGPS file and also upload a printable turn by turn for the old schoolers. The 35 miler will also have a bailout option that will shorten the route by about 10 miles.
I will also schedule rides on the Friday and Sunday of the event weekend through the Camellia City Vintage Lightweight Cycling Club so that people visiting the area for the long weekend will have the opportunity to ride with other vintage enthusiasts. Our (CCVLCC) rides are open to non members at no charge. We regularly have riders from other clubs join us.
Details will come into focus in the coming few months so that people considering attending will have time to plan.
I am very excited that Guy and others involved in the Classic Rendezvous group are taking the lead on this. I look forward to meeting people Ive interacted with on BF and in CR in person when this weekend comes together in October.

I have a buddy about my age who retired from teaching chemistry there. He is a fellow music lover who comes to San Diego almost every Labor Day weekend for our annual Brucknerthon*, so maybe it's time to visit him the next month.

We eat drink, socialize, and play recordings for all 10 (F and 1-9) Bruckner symphonies. Always fun to show up on my Austrian bike.

I'll have to see if I can get out there. Sounds like it'll be a great weekend!
I just checked the Eroica events and it appears even the Nova Eroica California has been dropped. Their loss.

Howdy,
I just got turned onto this thanks to @mhespenheide and I'll try to attend! I'll be comfortably living just up the way in Carmichael by then... Right now, my few vintage bikes are mostly riders, but I will certainly attend and might have enough stuff to fill a table at the swap area if that's possible!
Any further details yet?

With Eroica having dried up, I guess I'll have to make this my future goal for a vintage cycling event. Probably can't make it this year, but hopefully next year!

Welcome to the Sacramento area! Look forward to meeting you.
The route on Saturday has been revised to a 20 miler that will start and end at the HOF. Trying to keep the focus on the swap and the concours in and around the HOF.
On Friday and Sunday, Camellia City Vintage Lightweight Cycling Club will have two informal rides in the nearby Sacramento and West Sacramento areas for people to participate in, as well. Those rides will be in the 30-40 mile range. The Friday ride will start and end at the Bella Bru Cafe in Sacramento. The ride will be an afternoon ride timed to finish so we can enjoy a happy hour together at one of the restaurants in that strip mall.
The Sunday ride will be a mid morning start so that people can sleep in. Will be routed to start and end at Bike Dog Brewery in West Sacramento. Will draw up the details so that the finish is around 12-1 so participants can enjoy lunch and a beverage in the company of their fellow enthusiasts. Still working on the details of both routes. Both places have been picked as start/finish locations because of businesses that are bike friendly and because there is ample free parking for people who are driving in from other locations.
Hope you can join us for our monthly Camellia City VLCC vintage rides. There are always third Saturday rides and we have additional events that get posted by members. You can find ride information here: Camellia City Monthly Ride Information
We are also on Facebook.

This sounds great! I'll bring my bike with me from SF on the Capitol Corridor train.
Now then...which bike? -and how am I going to get all the old stuff I buy at the swap meet home with me? 🤔

Route Information for Rides on October 18-20
Colleagues,
Below are the final versions of the Classic Rendezvous West routes for Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20, 2024. Over the weekend, you will have the ability to participate in up to three rides. These are informal and there is no cost. Just show up at the places and times ready to go.
The Friday route (2:30 p.m. start) begins and ends at the Davis Bicycling Hall of Fame (HOF). It goes to Steady Eddy's in Winters and returns to the HOF. 30 miles and pan flat. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44514387
The Saturday route (8 a.m. start) circles clockwise from the HOF and then goes south on Mace Blvd. to Tremont before heading west to Old Davis Road. We pick up a very short and easy gravel section before riding into town. The route is drawn up so that we completely avoid Foxy's Fall Century which is taking place on the same day. 20 miles and pan flat. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45634679
There are two options for people wanting to join the Camellia City VLCC rides on Sunday. Both rides start/end at the Starbucks parking lot in Gold River right off Sunrise Blvd. The address of the Starbucks is 2095 Golden Centre Ln, Gold River, CA 95670. Big parking lot with plenty of free parking. It is a regular jumping off point for cyclists and the strip mall has never made an issue of people parking and then going for rides. As a courtesy, park a bit further from the businesses so that the closer spaces are available for customers. There are multiple food options and a nice supermarket. Our club's go to is the Beach Hut Café.
The long route (8:00 a.m. start) is 54 miles with about 2,400 feet of accumulated climbing on reasonably graded roads. I plotted it so that there are bail out/shortcut options if people feel they have gotten in over their heads or they just don't feel motivated to do the entire route. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48491434
The short route (9:30 a.m. start) is 35 miles with 1,400 feet of accumulated climbing on reasonably graded roads. I also plotted this one so that there is a bail out/shortcut option that will shorten it by 8 miles. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48491890
I will be leading the Friday and Saturday rides. I will likely lead the long route on Sunday. Long ride will start at 8:00 a.m. and the short ride will start at 9:30 a.m. so that we finish at approximately the same time and can have lunch together at the Beach Hut Deli which is at the start/finish location.
These are "self-serve" rides so there will be no roadside support or manned rest stops. I did mark rest rooms, and some convenience stops in the RidewithGPS maps to assist people in planning. If people choose to ride the routes, they will be expected to have bikes that are mechanically sound, and they should be physically fit and experienced enough that they are capable of handling the rides on their own without outside support. The Davis rides are on surface streets. Some roads have shoulders, others do not. The Sunday routes start in the Sacramento suburbs and head up to Newcastle with a return through Folsom. Both routes are a mix of bicycle trails and surface streets. Some roads have shoulders, others do not. These are roads that I enjoy riding as an experienced cyclist. My comfort level may be different than others. The maps are viewable without a RidewithGPS account and users can use the information to make their own judgements and generate paper turn by turn directions if they are not using a Garmin or similar device. If they are using a Garmin, they can download the routes.
Let me know if you have any questions!

This is a fantastic set of options. I'm coming in for Foxy's on Saturday and hope I can make the Friday or Sunday rides. One bike per day?
