Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've really been slacking on the boat work. Cooler weather during daylight hours has allowed me to rearrange the garage a bit so that I had room to work and scrape all the loose and bubbled paint and screw the loose screws in a bit.
Got into the coarse sanding but need to dig up a hair dryer to get at these decals. Hmm, maybe I'll see if acetone or paint stripper will wrinkle them enough to allow removal...

Just getting to hills worthy of repeating should be a sufficient. Then again, maybe just getting those studded tires on to the Haanjo and takin' that tank around the 'hood will be enough. I will say, though, that riding the Haanjo recently made for a lovely and dramatic change when I jumped on to the R3 yesterday - the ride is so lovely.

Oh man... do you use forced air or baseboard hot water? If the former, look at geothermal, saves a ton of money (assuming you stay long enough to recoup the initial cost)

Well, you're lucky that cheesecake is a negative calorie food - I'll have to drop cheesecake hints to wife next time.

Do you think we burn a lot more calories when it's cold?

Hmm. Dunno. Maybe when we're active and outside. The problem is the tendency to be inactive and inside.

A slice of cheesecake has less calories than a slice of bread. If you eat the other half tonight, you'll likely need to go down a waste size in your pants.

We used forced air. I am aware that geothermal is viable but also it does take quite some time for it to pay for itself and uses a modest amount of electricity. We had planned to consider moving once daughter #2 is out of the house, which was SUPPOSED to be now but since covid19 all bets are off.

That's what I meant, similar work in cold compared to warm weather. I know we have to use calories to stay warm, I just wondered if it's significant enough to matter in the grand scheme of things.

When my Fitbit™ gives me the 10 minute warning about being short of the hourly step goal, I often walk to the kitchen for a snack.

You know... I don't know. Maybe if you were walking or something... But if you were working at a level that would leave your body sweating and dumping off heat, regardless?

Only people with a lot of brown fat (bums and outdoor workers in cold places) can do that. Most of us have no way to make additional heat except muscle activity.
