Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Meh, you just need air conditioning wherever you go, that's all.

All the cool kids are moving to Asheville NC. You can ride up Mt Mitchell too.

We would consider heading to the SE too. But I don’t know if they are ready for the Jewish vegetarian cyclist with the Korean family and the lesbian daughter. Maybe some day.

My take on that part of the world is that it's just diverse. The liberals there rub shoulders with social and political conservatives at all points on the tolerance-bigotry spectrum, but everyone seems to get along because there's more emphasis on simply being nice.

One of the college towns would be fine. Oxford, Athens, Alpharetta, or similar. I'm also a big fan of Chattanooga, obviously.

If your point is that the datlas 's could find a comfortable spot in the southeast with a strong social network, you're correct.

But make no mistake--there are some real flat earthers here, some of whom hold considerable political power.

Exactly. I understand we now have a vocal contingent of literal flat-earthers.

Rather than rubbing shoulders, I'd be concerned about rubbing elbows with mirrors.

Rubbing calves with pit bulls teeth. Janie Hayes, and many of the other TABR participants, had nothing but fun with dogs in Tennessee.

That’s a concern too, although sadly even a concern even in beautiful Chester County, PA.

That reminds me--I still haven't been tested for rabies.

Well, I just signed up for another gravel event. It's actually at the North American handmade Bicycle Show in Dallas this year. March 21st. I was going to train up and do the longer route, but then found it it's a 10 mile lap format. So I could do the same 6 laps and get smoked, or I could do 3 laps and maybe finish decent. I picked "maybe finish decent." We'll see how that goes.

Live coverage pro cycling starts at 5PM today. In English. The Queen’s English.

The Spanish feed no longer works. ¡Triste!
