Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Zion and Bryce are must-sees for sure. Zion is more verdant, and overtly more beautiful, but Bryce just blew me away. It's otherworldly. Hiking through those hoodoos you will see a solid palette of sandstone color (say, beige), then you round the corner and all you can see is a different color, red or something. The odd solo pine tree peppered within the hoodoos for some green contrast. It just blew my mind.

Zion is monumental. The hike up to Angel's landing is epic and not for those fearful of heights as there are chains one holds on to along the way with multi 100 straight drops down both sides.
Bryce is strange, with nearly Gaudi-esque features.
Both worth going to.

Many decades ago as a born and raised midwesterner made the mistake in a back area hike of Zion of deciding that the best way to get to point was a straight line. Several canyons, reroutes and 30 miles later finally finished a 12 mile hike. Went to restaurant, order brook trout meal. Asked for another- they asked what I want another of - replied everything the whole thing. Ate it all too.

Back in 2000 I finished a tour to Cortez, CO from Seattle to meet up with a GF and some schoolmates. They were interning at Mesa Verde.

Not long after I arrived, the park caught on fire and we had to evacuate to town. With nothing to do, we took a road trip to Vegas. The second night we camp at Bryce. I had heard of the place but knew nothing about it. When we arrived, we first went to the welcome center to use the restrooms. There was a gift shop selling all sorts of posters of the place. I asked my GF “Is this what we are going to see?”

I was blown away. We got up the next morning to see the sunrise and then walked amongst the hoodoos.

Looks like it should be telling us some jokes.

I started going to Moab to mtb in the mid 80's and then got hooked on jeeps and over the years have lost count of how many times I have been to Moab (usually 2x year) have never grown tired of it.

3/8” tempered. 1” would be too heavy. We have some of that in the living room. I considered plywood with a tasteful rattle can finish, but it wouldn’t match our other pieces.

I should ride Moab one of these days, I have a feeling I'm more of a Gooseberry guy though - awesome trails, no crowds, one hour closer to home.
