Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh, and I finally gave up the hope of finding an awesome tire deal, ended my handwringing and ordered the yearly tires - Michelin Power Road TLRs this time around.

Giant Crosscut AT 1. I don’t even think Giant sells them retail. I’m guessing I’m wasting 20-30W on these.

I was looking at getting either the G-One or the Terraspeed or even something from Rene Herse.

I don’t really need aggressive tread except for a couple of rides I have planned.

I like my RH tires a lot, although I'm not looking forward to replacing the rear here in a little bit $$$

Their knobbies look so interesting, although I really have no use for them around here.

I have these:

They're slow as heck until you get on hardpack.

I use those on the Crux for gravel (40mm). They don't hold me back -- it's not the tires, it's me.

A couple of gravel tire options that have had positive reviews from shop customers.

Kenda Tires | Bicycle | Flintridge Pro Cyclocross Tires | Find a Tire | Kenda Tires

Pathfinder Pro 2Bliss Ready | Specialized.com

Teravail makes an ineresting-looking mixed terrain tire. Similar idea to the Pathfinder.

Washburn | Teravail

I have them mounted tubeless on nice wheels (Ardennes+ SL) for the dirt, and 25 mm GP 4-seasons with tubes on not-so-nice Ardennes+ GPs for commuting. Every time I switch to the fatties, it feels like riding through something denser than air.

I go the other way. The Crux feels faster when I put the gravel tires on it. But, that's because I've switched from CX knobbies.

Same wheelset.

Yeah, that's why I like the Allrounds - the knobbies are minimal and don't have pronounced shoulders or anything like that. They would be horrible in the muck and mire, but they're still great for gravel.

Edit: oh, I forgot to mention - while looking at tires, I saw that Schwalbe is now offering the G-One Speed in larger sizes - 35 and 38, iirc. They used to only come in a 30mm, and it was one of the best tires I've had. I would think that they'd be awesome for occasional gravel and speedy on pavement.

Good news. The off road tires held air overnight. And we got several inches of rain. I think today is gluing day. I'm short one rear wheel, and this would be that one.

One reason it was so hard to get ride of him. Also, some crazy amount of his salary is still counted against the Eagles' salary cap even though he's no longer on the team. I think it's in the tens of millions.

How, exactly, does one 'waste' watts?

I'm riding these. I appreciate that it's more work. I don't have to stay out so long to get my workout. And I can get back to my woodworking. Yesterday I finished a wooden jack plane and a wooden router plane, and got most of the way through a new hatchet handle.
