I've been watching QBP for it to become available and as of Tuesday they were out of stock still. I didn't see an expected stock date either; sometimes they put up anticipated arrival dates.

I saw something the ETA for QBP is the middle of February. But in regards to that, the Big Dummy ETA was January 15th!

I seriously want a Travellers Check, as my job takes me out of town for long stretches at a time and I only get home every other weekend! I currently ride an LHT set up with 700c x 28 tires as a road bike, and I love it! This summer, when I get my bonus, my wife wants a big diamond (some cr@p about deserving it because she put up with me for 30 years or something). Maybe there'll be enough left to go talk to my favorite LBS - set it up just like the LHT with a triple chainring and bar-end shifters, and life would be good!

Hey! I see that Surly got rid of the picture of the guy in the halter top!

When I bought my LHT, the other bike my LBS was talking about was a Crosscheck. One look at the web site and the guy in the short-shorts and halter top, and I just couldn't make myself go along with that! The LHT though - that's a manly bike!

Really? You are worried someone you meet might have seen that pic on the Surly website, remember it, connect it with the bike you are riding and then make assumptions about your sexual orientation/cross-dressing preferences based on that???

That's a chain of events that wouldn't cross my mind, but to each his own....

BUMP UP with a pretty unrelated question on the travelers check:

i have someone offering my a travelers check for us$650 frameset only.
it's been built and ridden a very few times.
56cm, exactly the size i'd get if ordering new.
blue, my last choice colour, but whatever, it's $400 off new price.

i'm not positive i'll ever really need one. however, i do travel and/or move at least once a year. i almost never have a bike at destination. so as they say, 6.5 flights and the saved baggage fees would buy the frame themselves. even my wife wants me to buy it with the money we almost don't have for it!

i've just never seen one of these used at all, and wonder what others have seen them at. 650 seems like a great deal, esp from a lbs. but is it?

also, since i would rely on this bike to be a true everything bike, i do have a few concerns. if i were to build a new ideal messengering bike, it would have disc brakes. i guess i could get an alternate fork for a front disc with fixed rear. but that seems to limit the crosscheck's perfectness to me. especially as a cross/light xc bike.

so what do you all say? plunge or not?

I bought one and think it's great.

Rides like a crossbike. I've taken it touring, to Hawaii and California on the dirt roads of the Marin headlands. the bike is solid.

They are now selling a LHT with S and S couplers under the name LHT Deluxe.

the LHT deluxe will only come with 26" wheel sizes and it is not currently selling, not in stock yet.

26" wheels pack easier into a suitcase so the choice is logical. It will be interesting to see if this model sells better than the S&S CC. If not I imagine it will also be scrapped and the experiment concluded.



Having owned a S&S touring bike [since sold], a Surly LHT and a Bike Friday NWT [that I kept]...I'd take the $$ it would cost for the S&S and buy a Bike Friday touring bike that folds in seconds without tools and also have a non-folding LHT...best of both worlds really and similar cost.

With all due respect, while this makes sense for a touring bike, I think the LHT with 26" wheels isn't as appealing for an all-around road bike.

I hear you, but if you want an all-around road bike then don't buy a touring bike. You can get S&S couplers added to a Surly Pacer frame or even a Cross Check if you liked.
