0-5F degrees all day Monday and Tuesday where we are. Wind chill was in the -15 to -25 range. Currently 25F.
Just found out that the sprinkler system in our daughter's condo is frozen and the fire alarm is sounding. Fingers crossed on that one that it doesn't trigger the sprayers when it thaws or break a line.
Don't know about the palm trees. It has not been like this in the 40 years I've been here. I do have a new ice rink.
As bad as it is, we are healthy, have a warm place to stay, have food, and are safe. We also have toilet paper and flushing toilets. Things could be a lot worse.

And bought 20lb of ice at HEB, which will melt overnight. And scooped a bunch of snow into a huge Rubbermaid for flushing. Not a lot of fun, but could be worse.
And yes, the real problem is things aren't hardened for this. AG's dad is a power system professor and consults with the main local utility. Just like we have crappy insulation in our houses here and the pipes aren't covered, the windmills don't have the winterizing options installed. Those cost money that most (here) didn't want to pay. Natural gas pump heads froze solid. Our issue here now is that underground water mains broke and we're at the top of a hill, so... we're effed but good. But warm, at least for now. I am legit scared of my fingers with the Raynaud's; at least I have a bunch of chemical warmers.
The total damage of this will be colossal, make no mistake. AG and I are incredibly lucky. It's not as bad as Katrina or Harvey or Sandy, but the amount of damage will be huge. And we wanted to get some construction work done over the summer.

Oh, but going to HEB was fun. The baby-Land-Cruiser GX was amazing in the snow. Wish I'd had it in Albany.

I just used the main property shut off. Will check it periodically over the next few days, but won't worry about it filling our pipes and freezing while we sleep. Or if we go to a hotel for a shower and an oh my god change of pace.

a plumber who is a friend of my wife’s boss stopped by this evening and fixed our waterline break. No charge! But, he then found a leak inside the water heater. The particular unit is over 10 years old, and it does not appear that the parts needed to fix are available. So, we are likely looking at a new water heater. Running rough numbers in my head, we are probably looking at $15k in house repairs assuming nothing else happens. And, that doesn’t include anything resulting from the pool freezing or landscape replacements.
A friend and client called today to tell me that he lost one of his two HVAC systems due to the surges from the rolling blackouts. Then, he called back to tell me he also had a pipe to his tankless water heater break resulting in flooding. Another friend had a massive ceiling collapse from water from a heater flooding their attic. Those stories are everywhere around here.
We tried finding a hotel room yesterday before we found out the house had power, but everything in safe driving distance was booked.

1) lf the water pipes are frozen, what makes you think the sewer pipes aren't?
2) You don't need to flush, if you have a supply of garbage bags.
