An offer I couldn't refuse
After about six months of rationalization and conversation, my wife agrees that a entry-level fatbike could be a nice gift for my birthday in September.
For a while I had thought that the only bikes that would be in my price range would be a Motobecane, Framed, or Felt DD70, which I'd prefer to support a local business.
Well, we head out to a local shop I'd never been to today (but they sponsored the Black Fly Challenge, so they're right up my alley). I'm drooling over the Salsas and 9Zero7s, never thinking they'd be in my price range, until they mention that they're just putting their rental Mukluks on sale. I managed to score a 2015 Mukluk 3 for $700 below MSRP, and the only downsides are a little surface rust on the derailleur and some chipped paint on the frame! They already had it setup tubeless, too.
I haven't weighed it, but it seems no heaver than my GT 9R (my only other mountain bike), and it rides great.
They funny thing, my wife overheard the salesman talking to me about the bike before I took it for a ride, she almost bought it for me as a surprise when I was out riding it!
I know I wasn't supposed to get it until my birthday, but it looks like I'll be riding it for father's day.
