Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I miss the Denton music scene. Had a lot of fun in that town when I was in school.

I think there are a lot of us that follow this thread regularly because they enjoy being around the conversation, but feel they neither have much content nor desire to contribute. Or maybe that's just me.

This reminds me that I've got some prep to take care of before I drop the girl off at preschool - trainer wheel and axle swap, round up the fan and trainer, find some not-shorts, etc. I haven't touched any of my bike **** since getting back from VA.

Woo hoo - USPS says my bars will be here in the next couple hours.

Side query: when did USPS tracking stop sucking so hard? They used to be the worst, but the last few shipments that I've had through them have been solid.

I still like the novelty of it. It's safer than trying it in real life, which I won't do.

A guy in the club is always doing the supertuck. As I outweigh him by a fair bit, still, I can usually keep up with a conventional tuck, though.

Or maybe I should credit my wider rims/tires and tubeless for some ultra-low rolling resistance?

Yeah, that's the ticket.

There are a couple of my club-mates who do the supertuck on a regular basis. I am too ascared to do it.

Ditto!

I played the bass and sousaphone, as well. In junior high, I signed up for a band class that I thought was a beginning class, and come to find out, it wasn't. Teacher asked me to make the noise with my lips that one does with a large brass mouthpiece, I could, and a star was born.... It was cool, because I progressed/regressed down to playing the baritone, trombone and trumpet, but never mastered the french horn. Weird thing indeed.

I never laid my hands or lips on a trombone or french horn, that I remember. Maybe I should have tried the trombone. The embouchure would have been familiar to me from the euphonium, and I eventually began to love playing fretless electric basses, so perhaps the infinitely variable tuning wouldn't have been too hard to pick up on.

Baritone/euphonium was an instrument that I wish I would have pursued a little more. I always found it to have such a sweet tone, kind of the cello of the brass instruments. The kids that played them in my school were definitely the weirdest of the brass playing band kids, though. And that's saying something. The woodwinds were on a whole 'nother level.

I would think that a longer glove going even past the elbow would be a lot safer. The claws where almost at the end of the glove at first.

You have to leave early when you cross the river?

I'm out of rock salt, too. Fortunately there's no ice on the sidewalk. It's 58F.

38F now, so the ice has melted. Still raining though.

Well it would be nice to have you (and others) contribute, but it's fun to know people find this thread interesting. I would have thought this was dreadfully dull or everyone else.

Cool handlebars have arrived. Cool handlebars are cool.

Routing and connecting shift cables and hydro hoses? Not as cool. I'll get to it some time before spring.

Bad day at work.

Someone just told me he can't/won't contribute a book chapter that was due in July. Now I will probably have to write it myself under time pressure.

I also seem to have gotten myself into a fight with very put-upon female colleague over an office space for employees. She is the last person whose toes I want to step on and this the last thing I want to beef over, but here we are and my guy is going to be very unhappy if, or, rather, when, I back down. The big boss, who can settle this with a wave of his hand is in India or the UAE or someplace.

I am going to go lift weights for lunch.

42cm doesn't feel any different than 44cm. I think that one manufacturers is lying and padding by a cm or two. Unconscionable.

For most of my community band tenure we've had three or four French horns.

This week, the first practice of the new season, we had nine.

Utter madness.

Shave?

I received my limited edition Gillette (branded) safety razor yesterday and had my first traditional wet shave (face and head). It was nice. I spied a decent straight razor at an antique shop the other day, and intetnets research sez that it would be a good deal on a nice blade, so I might pick it up this afternoon, too. Oh, and I also have a Proraso gift set (pre-shave, shave cream and aftershave) that'll be here on Sunday. I'm saving up stubble 'til then.

If this kind of material doesn't work the lurkers up in to a lather, nothing will.

Remember that some measure center-center, inside-inside, and outside-outside. And that's before accounting for the curve possibly pointing in slightly, or the drops flaring out, and the decision of where to measure.

It's like how Cervelo and Quintana Roo tri bikes have the same set of stacks and reaches, but QR wants to have the size named after an actual tube somewhere on the bike, so a 54 QR fits like a 56 Cervelo. It all kinda means nothing.

Yes. Accidents are almost a daily occurrence on all of the major bridges. If no accidents, they always seem to have lane closures for construction.
