Honestly? This is not a "someone", though I imagine their CTO's career is finished. However, you don't get to this level of shutdown because of one person's actions, not even at the CTO level. This is the kind of thing that requires systemic failures on multiple levels to achieve. You know where I work; we take a great deal of measures to prevent anything like this. And believe me, it's not as if no one has tried.

"A couple weeks" is the darkest-timeline version where they have to stand up new servers and get it running from their last known-safe backup. However, it's possible. Days would be if it can be undone. And this all assumed it really is ransomware and that that's not rumor and they don't just have to fix a broken deployment. However, this being 2020, I'm not willing to be hopeful. Hell I haven't opened the Bloodroot knife because I'm afraid there'll be something wrong with it; the box is sitting by the door.

Oh and yes, the files can be manually uploaded. I'll do that on promising weeks.

I used to have that malady. I eventually traced it to Arabica coffee. Robusta coffee doesn't cause it. Food for thought.

For reference, I couldn't even easily steal the data on the test server, and that's invalid test data that wouldn't work out in the real world. It's still encrypted all the way through and I'm literally locked from exporting it in any way. Any machine able to connect to production servers is even more secure.

Lost power last night before bedtime. Came back on after an hour. Was hanging on the deck with the cat. Went inside to find it out again. Crashed on the couch because it was too hot upstairs. Woke up at 3 to the sound of central air. Yadda yadda yadda I’m really tired this morning.

Yesterday, my wife tells me one of my wheels has a wobble. I take a quick look and it's not bad so I finish the rid. Get home and look at it and it's a broken spoke... oops... broken aluminum nipple.
OK, no problem, I'll make an espresso and redo the wheel. Espresso machine fails to pump water. I call the dealer and lady says that according to their records, I've had the unit for two months now so how many times have I descaled it? Times? Uh, that would be zero. We have soft water so I didn't bother. She runs me through some diagnostics and says, yup, your three way solenoid valve is plugged. I'll send you to a couple links on how to tear your machine down. I look at the videos and it's like brain surgery to get to this goofy thing. Back to the Nespresso and Aeropress until I get up the nerve to tear this thing apart.

We still have some Thai peppers dried out from last year's balcony garden, I've never thought about throwing some into a jar, might have to try that

I've lived in municipalities with pretty good water and I've only descaled my machine twice in... goodness... 12 years?
So you can hear the pump going but it's not coming out (back-flushing or something)?

PM delivery delayed until Monday. It seems to have gone from Vancouver to Louisville to Billings so far. Oh well. Got new club """kit""" on Weds and better to space out the indulgences a little.
