So three guys started our 400 rando event this morning. One is a local and practising for PBP later this year, one from down in Hobart and did his first rando before the end of last year (which is a wild climbing and sometimes wild weather 200) and the third from South Australia and mates of one of the longest riding guys in randonnees (try lots and lots of 1200km events as well as lots of other events).
Machka and I will fit in a short ride of our own early this afternoon and may cross their path to see how they are going, then set up a checkpoint at the ex-mining town, Beaconsfield, late this evening/early morning to provide them with some refreshments and water.
From 1 deg C and frosty windscreens at the start, it's now a nice sunny day. Tonight is also predicted to be frosty cold, but hopefully not form ice on the roads -- I've encountered that once myself and it results in an instant downfall that hurt a leg and hip and elbow....

Dan, great to do the repair work before the event even though things might seem a little different. Those pesky cables and their covers can be their own problems as I found last weekend with the Merlin.
Lots of good luck with the rides.

He’s toast. Odds are he won’t even make it to the 2nd one. But you got to give him A for courage.

I decided to skip riding today to give the shoulder more time to heal. I hope to try a short ride tomorrow.
I may go helmet shopping later today. Although I am usually thrifty, I will likely splurge and get a BIG $ helmet. Most likely the Prevail II MIPS, assuming fit is same as the Prevail it’s replacing.

So the good news is I am healing up from my injuries. I would say the pain in my shoulder and range of motion are 50% back to normal, which is not bad for only 2 days out.
I really want to ride with my club (but maybe a B or B+ ride, not my usual A- group) tomorrow, but mrs datlas thinks I should wait.
Should I post this question in the 41 with a poll??

I'm getting a pedi right now, and I wonder if it's okay to ask them to pop my toes?
