Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

kind of a variation of this. The wait for Vanilla became years long because Sacha did every bit of the work. He created Speedvagen where he does all the fittings, and has a couple people do welding, painting, mechanics. The bikes were 100%. Custom. The OG models came into existence a few years ago when they had room in the queue they would build a few extra bikes in a size they were already making in a stock geometry. They cut the seat tube based upon the order of the OG so they can turn one around (once made) in about 3-4 weeks. I’m told they sell about 20-25 of their OG’s or so per year and the balance are full custom. But the reason why the wait is reasonable is that they have a few people building vs. just one. They seem to be holding to their philosophy of building only 111 bikes per year

We raced against Jambi in the 2017 Marion-Bermuda and I got a close look at her there. She’d be juuust perfect for me and the Mrs and the occasional crew of pros.

Speaking of lusting after something, I'm at my office now dumping the bags of leaves I raked into the dumpster. I brought a Turkey thigh I ate for dinner to my old, blind cat that lives at my office. He can't use stairs anymore among other things so he lives at my office now. The Turkey bone is like a fountain of youth elixir for Mr. Bingley. It turns back the hands of time, if only for a short time.

Anyway, if a person can get as much joy out of lusting after something like a bike or a sailboat as that cat is getting from the Turkey bone, more power to them. It's all good.

I like cycling but sail gets my lust factor up. I've sailed about 15,000 miles offshore which is a drop in the bucket in a place like Newport, Rhode Island where there are many who have sailed and raced for a lifetime. My current objects of lust are the French Ultim class of 100' trimarans.

I need this. The minute or less I save with this bike over a Shiv is essential for my middle-of-pack dominance.
