Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How about a nice stream of orange paint?

So I got a new pair of Chuck Taylors the other day and I just now noticed that they have a little bit of padding in them!!!

It's not noticeable when wearing them but when you yank on the tongue before lacing you can feel it, just a little bit of give.

WTH?

Upon further inspection and comparison from other pairs of Chucks, I think it's just a different liner material. The interior layer of fabric has a coarser weave, and has a synthetic look to it.

You can talk any way you wish, but texting is illegal. Hand held talking and texting used to be illegal in Philly (IIRC, you had to be in a non-travel lane with the car in neutral. It also applied to bicycle operators.), but the state's no-texting law nullified the city's ban even on hand-held talking.

Plus they can get away with charging exorbitant "copying" fees. I used to go around and around with cops on that BS when I was a journalist. There's a difference between what the law says and what you can actually get people to do, especially when the cops are the ones who have no interest in enforcing or following the law, which is pretty much always.

Hmmm I seem to have gone off on a tangent. How about them e-bikes?
Yeah, it's especially frustrating when even video evidence fails to move the needle on their Give-a-**** meter - I think that, unless there's video evidence of a collision, they'll dismiss any close passes as, "well, it's hard to say based on just video." Also, a couple months ago, I even had driver admit to a cop that he buzzed me at 2' or less and the cop shrugged his shoulders and said, "I didn't witness it."

I'd be lying if I said that I hadn't looked up carbide-tipped safety tools with similar considerations.

One of the biggest scams from cops (there are many) is "I have to see it to do anything."

No, you don't. People get prosecuted for crimes literally every single day that cops didn't witness. The standard is not "did a cop see it" it's "beyond reasonable doubt."

So when cops say that they're just being lazy.

Also, it's not up to the cop, or the victim, as to whether charges get filed. That is up to the prosecuting attorney.

Of course, they really don't want to/don't have the time and resources to deal with traffic complaints either. But sometimes people have had success getting a local DA involved when the cops refuse to do their jobs.

Can someone recommend the best bang-for-your-buck POS camera with a strong zoom?

Is that better?

It's your fault the car hit you.

(I don't spend much time there but that seems to be the tenor, right?)

Asking for a friend, does anyone know how easy/hard it would be to drill a hole in a muffler/exhaust pipe flange??

For self contained bike touring, where size and weight are issues? I think that's the right answer.

Easy. Start it with a center punch, then use a good bit with high speed, low pressure, and cutting oil. Hardest thing is holding the work if you don’t have a press.

You work in an office now? I used to love Chuck Taylors, but then my feet became wide, I guess from rarely wearing shoes.

Grrrrr... yesterday, while endlessly walking at the Fair, I'd rationalized the Rapha purchase that I'd been mulling. I logged on today to place the order and the primary purchase, a jersey, was no longer in stock in L or XL.
