Fair enough, but what does the MTB crash have to do with anything? That was a commitment that I had with my best friend, had nothing to do with the race. I already had to cancel the week prior because of work, I couldn’t cancel again. My lack of power has nothing to do with the mtb crash.
Poor decisions? Im trying to figure out what my body is even capable of doing. I got a cold or something while at work after monster cross and it hasn’t gone away. The day prior I felt okay, but afterwards was spent, so I wanted to see what I could do today, and it wasn’t anything. Not riding tomorrow, hopefully I will feel better.

Now you're not even going to race? Tell the family to stay at home. Get out there and get your ass handed to you and maybe you might learn something from it. You have to learn to deal with the bad as well as the good. Avoiding the possible bad outcome by ditching the start is the coward's way out. There's some other words to describe it, but they won't get past the censor.
Is that the message?

I ran a 7:40 pace half last year on 8 training runs total with 125 miles on the bike the week leading up to it (and not taking it easy). It’s not super fast, but not bad for a total of 30 running miles in the 4 months leading up to it.
Everyone is different, I’d have done exactly what you did- figure out how you can perform. You do you

The crash did have an an impact on your race. It put you at less than 100%, in healing mode for the rest of the week leading up to the crit. You could have crashed on your road bike as well. You training for any event, any sport is what it is 1-2 weeks before the event. It's not going to magically change/get better/worse in the week leading up to the event. Nothing you do will change that. Your only goal/goals for that week should be do a few rides to stretch the muscles, rest up and make it to the starting line injury free. That's it. You won't have a good event if don't do that. You might not have one anyway, but you have to put yourself in the best possible position, period.
I do appreciate your input, and will take it to heart. I’m still trying to figure all this out too. I am still a newb.

Speaking of… all winter long I’ve been avoiding riding outside when the temp is in the 20. I went this morning where the “feels like” was 15, I just couldn’t take the idea of riding the trainer.
I’m so pissed that I have been such a kitty cat all winter long, it was cold for a total of 5 minutes.
In other news, I made some minor saddle setback adjustments on the soloist today before riding because I had too much quad engagement. It felt effortless this morning to stay in tempo and sweet spot power ranges. I love the hell out of this bike.

I honestly have never seen value in a taper, running or riding my results are the same with or without.

I also didn’t get to ride for 7 days after monstercross because of work. schedule was brutal and the one day I could have gotten on a stationary bike the hotel didn’t have one.

Zwift Games "Loop de Loop" route 55/89 A cat, got spanked lol. Should have just done my intervals.
IDK if it was legs or mentality (I was scared) but I did not have the cajones to make it over the first KOM with the leaders. Had IT issues so I didn't join till like 10 seconds before the start. After getting dropped, I soft pedaled in no mans land till a group two formed. Same thing happened in group two (lol). Soft pedaled the final few minutes.
Still, good workout! It was basically a sweet spot workout with two Z6 2' climbs. Next time I'll respect these "Zwift Games" events a little more! More warmup and be ready to dig real deep on any climbs.
KOM circled. Letting the AP and HR drop back down.
I saw a Joaquim Rodriguez (HISP) in group 1 - think it was the real deal?

You were right. I did a 1hr+ trainer ride last night in the new Shimanos. I had to change the insoles to get the arch height and location correct (I have a bunch of different insole options on hand), but once I got that sorted out, they were REALLY good. The fit is such that I don't have to crank down the Boas to fell like they are holding my foot well. Also, I love the newer Boas that allow micro-adjustment in both directions. The boas on my Bonts required full release to loosen them at all..

Im all for the experience but what’s the point if I can’t even hang on. I mean seriously I couldn’t hold 250 watts for 4 mins today. How the hell am I supposed to race like that? Seems like a waist of money honestly. I’ll make a decision tomorrow, but if I feel like today, I don’t see the point.

In other collision news; the insurance company of the driver that wrinkled the SportWagen back in November just acknowledged that their insured was at fault, so I'll be getting my deductible back.
