Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Cannondale now has a handlebar, which means I was able to mount the brake levers, which makes it look a lot more like a bike.

Thanks to Big John, I'm going for a ride. Off-road. Thanks for the inspiration.

Just found a NOS Ti railed version of a saddle I've been wanting to try for less than the retail price of the base steel-rail version

It's something how 50F feels "warm" here after we've been in the freezer.

Oh it does. It’s amazing how our bodies adapt, I remember feeling over heated at 40.

If I get a chance to ride I'll need to remind myself that even though it might feel like it, it's not quite warm enough to go without knee warmers or tights

It's been so cold that car washes have been closed.

I'm finally getting mine washed after a couple of weeks of regular commuting.

My poor truck is literally crusty

Ice sheet in our pool got to roughly 2" thick. First time we've ever had ice in a pool.

That's the end of winter according to the earth's orbit, not according to the temperature.

Celebrating LSS’s PPP loan forgiveness with a little glass of decent Sauvignon Blanc. She is now really retired. The good creature shoveled snow and scraped ice all day too. Glad I’m a keeper!

All but a year of the time I spent working at Genentech, it was in Building 1, which was really just a converted warehouse, with windows only for a very few executives, and part of the lunchroom. The rest of the place had no windows. Nothing but artificial light. Every year when Daylight Savings Time started and I left work before dark for the first time, for the first whole week I felt like I was leaving early.

SO, now I have a QR for the rear wheel (to match the RX100 front lever) in San Jose, a rear derailleur in Rochester NY, a front hub cone in Denver, a BB in Florida, and a shift lever in Italy. Or at least, those are the last known locations.

That's all the bits I need, with what I already have. Have I mentioned that I hate waiting?

It was great. There is a spider web of roads out there. I was on an old railroad bed.
