Suntour Honor Rear Derailluer

Hi,
I am reaching out to the forum and the community. I recently aquired a 1970’s Centurion road bicycle that has a Suntour groupo. I had a issue not being able to take off one of the pulley bolts only to find out that it was stripped. I tried everything under the sun to get it off and no success. So I would really like to know if anyone might have one for sale? Or another idea for recommendations to possibly replace the rear derailleur with something else. Suggestions and help welcome.

Thank you,
Jesse

Any mid-length cage Suntour derailleur will likely work. The V-series models are usually inexpensive. First gen Cyclone is a really nice upgrade.

Yup, a Suntour V-GT would be both period-appropriate, and and nice upgrade from the Honor. They often can be found in the 'claw mount'

If you're running friction shifters, which i'd assume you are, given the RD; then you can use pretty much any 7-speed RD(or 5/6-sp) with a claw mount.

Bolt is stripped or threads in cage stripped? If it's the bolt replace it.

Check with local bike co-ops for either the part needed or a used replacement Suntour. Just about any Suntour (or shimano for that matter) will work and as the honor is near the low end, likely an upgrade.
Make sure they understand you need a claw mount or swap the existing claw over.

Hi,
Thanks again, we don’t have any Bicycle Clinics in Hollister, CA. I might have to make a special trip to San Jose. I don’t suppose you work at the shop and if so would you have a spare or the one that you had mention the V-GT
? If I can put it on hold?

Thanks agai

If you look at my avatar I'm 2200 miles away from San Jose, so no I can't

You can put there a longer bolt and a locknut outside. Your problem is nearly non-issue unless you are going for some esthetics. You just need to put some axle there in place and there more and less sophisticated ways of doing it.

Using a longer bolt does work fine, just be sure, as stated, to put the nut on the _outside_. Don't want too much sticking out inboard to maybe contact the spokes when the chain is on the largest cog. Also want to use a button-head or similar thin-head bolt, for the same reason.

"This derailleur has no Honor." Worf
