Police bike jersey for commuting
I'm thinking about adding a big "POLICE" to the back of my commuter bike jerseys to avoid some of the dangerous and rude car behavior. Think it would help?

To keep it legal, make it a shirt that says
But don't even give the perception that you are actually an LEO....you may get unintended consequences that could ruin your day, or worse.
Another idea I have seen
Support your local

Oh common people, stop being stupid. Cn any of yu actiually find a case of a bicycle officer being shot at while tooling along?
That being said, if you are really considering this do one of two things. Purchased a licensed, pre-made PD type shirt (as an example, be it stupid or not, LAPD has allowed a number of manufacturers to print LAPD on clothing), or as someone else said, get a "support your local..." style of shirt. Th best thing would be to purchase a jersey that is the same color as your local PD uses woth NO writing whatsoever on it.
DO NOT purchase this shirt at a uniform suplier and do not make your own. DO ask how what you are doing can be seen, and shown in court, as not impersonating an officer.
Overall, I think it is a bad idea.
written with a really bad keyboard, so I applogise in advance for the typing

i dont know if it would help or not. alot of people seem to have a dislike or distrust of law enforcement officials. if it helps any, i wouldn't run you over or off the road... than again i don't have a dislike of policemen.

Two things will happen:
1) you won't be able to pull it off (unless you also carry a sidearm)
2) you'll get more undo attention than you wanted

You can buy tons of "FBI" gear (blue with white letters) down on the mall at D.C. Don't know how many drivers would fall for the idea of an FBI agent on a bike though...

Cops that shoot first, ask questions later. I guess we can call it karma that a cop found himself on the other side of that coin.

every 3 blocks by an oldie in a Jersey tagged Buick asking where Disneyland was.
What I did that helped was put a flag on the back of my bike. I found a really
nice one on my ride so I stopped and attached to my rack and immediately
enjoyed more room and saner passes.

Or maybe:
NYPD
NYFD
Or even an American flag theme.
I suggest thes ebecause after 9/11 the whole country was united an dpolite to each other. Does anyone remember how no one blew their horns is traffic at each other for like weeks? I do. Suddenly everyone was nice to each other. What the heck happened to that.
I'm looking for an American Flag helmet. I already have a headsweat but no one can see it 'till I take my helmet off.

You gonna eat that?
US Flag Code- see Paragraph 8:
§8. Respect for flag
No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
...
4. The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
...
10. No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

^ Save being in D.C., that relates to the use of a flag itself, not an image or a graphical representation thereof. So, a shirt or helmet or the like, is perfectly fine and not a course of disrespect.

JUst wear the same color clothes that the officers wear. Ive done that and have been confused for a cop about 6 times now. Also I have a mp3 control on my bag that looks like a radio from a distance.

A jersey that says "police" across the back? I love that band! Just wearing a shirt isn't impersonating
an officer, telling people you're one is(I think)

Agreed... I can speak to Florida only, but displaying the word POLICE on something is not necessarily impersonation. Additional elements are required... Add a name plate of some kind, and a badge/patch representing a police agency, and now you have impersonation.

NEW YORK (May 29) -- A plainclothes policeman who drew his gun while chasing someone he had found rummaging through his car was shot and killed by a fellow officer who was driving by and saw the pursuit, the police commissioner said.
Commissioner Raymond Kelly said 25-year-old Omar J. Edwards died after being shot late Thursday within blocks of the Harlem police station where he worked.

That's pretty awesome
The US postal team helmets were red/white/blue. Maybe you can find some overstock 03 Pneumo or slightly later atmos helmets in stock somewhere

We live in a very diverse country, for better or for worse. While you are looking for some "totem" to protect you from harm, you will be inviting new problems. Some people respect the police, some hate, and some fear... which driver is going to hit you on the road? ---The one who is not paying attention. If you feel you need to protect yourself while riding, maybe you should choose a different route. The guy shaking his fist at the world will be the first one singled out. Don't expect you will change people's behavior by tricking them. Riding intelligently will solve the problem. Rather than wearing the costume of the police, wear bright and visible clothing. You will get more respect from others who recognize your attempt to protect yourself.
