... but not nearly as much as distance hurts.

how fitting. Going for 50 today, if I still feel good then Ill do the extra 12.
I usually have about an 18 mph average speed on my 25 mile rides. I’m thinking I should dial it back to about 15-16 for this endeavor today? Riding slower is hard for me to do mentally, even if it only 1 mile per hour slower it feels in my head so much slower.

Dont know your situation, but when I am having a bad day and tend to be on the angry side, so have started asking myself why am I angry. Usually turns out I am angry because I want to be angry not because I actually care about the given situation. That calms me down.

My Garmin 935 appears to be sick. For two runs in a row it now claims the temperature was a steady 104* (only off by about 60* or so...) and zero elevation change at any point. At least the claimed elevation is a relatively-accurate 890', but there are definitely some rolling hills on this route.

Something close to a major-ish city is a big deal. Wife and I like to go to concerts so being near a typical tour stop is a big priority.
Also, affordability and a thriving city center are important. Bike / public transport infrastructure is a plus, I would love to not have to drive a car everywhere.
We've looked into places like Raleigh or Asheville. Briefly looked into Chattanooga. I think living mountain adjacent would be really neat.
As much as I loved visiting Savannah and Charleston last spring, I don't think I would want to live on the coast.

Vain, But Lacking Talent
As far as my Zwift episode, I think I overestimated my body's ability to recover. I did a one hour recovery pace zwift ride on Sunday and took the day off Monday. It was probably foolish to think I could jump back into a moderate pace after thrashing myself that hard.

My wife and I thought about the SE, too, but decided to stay where we are. While the SE has some nice weather, they have some schizoid weather, too, like rain and storms and summer humidity’s that makes Illinois humidity look like the Sahara. And, don’t forget the traffic.
Then again, escaping Illinois taxes and state debt may make any change of location worthwhile.

Big week for bike news in the abshipp household.
Canfield MTB frame was just delivered.
Trek 710 frame will be picked up from powder coat today.
New chainring ordered for my Motobecane fixed gear so that I can utilize my more period correct 50.4bcd crankset instead of a mid-80s Sugino.

Two random sensors. And I'm not sure how familiar you are with these - my coach's tells him he's climbing 30k' on every run. The sensors just die periodically; it's a Garmin thing. I'd love to kick them to the curb if there were a better option.

Once you're 100+ miles from the coast, hurricanes aren't a huge threat (unless you're in a flood zone).
Hard to find a place that has everything you're looking for (especially the bicycle-friendly and public transportation parts), but I think if you go from Raleigh over to Nashville, middle Alabama to Columbia, SC, there are a number cities to look at.
We're all different, but I don't view the objections raised above (bugs, storms, humidity, heat) as being particularly bad here. In fact I wish the summer was twice as long.

I guess Wahoo hasn't gone the full Tri route? I was really hoping with their success that Garmin would get off their butts and make their firmware not suck so much, but that hasn't really been the case.

About to go to the chiropractor. Work is full on stressing me out today. Lots of sudden end of month demands in the last few days is starting to pile up and make me want to "get sick" and stay home.

There's no watch, which is the problem. I'd be ok with an Element, in principle, but without a watch it's a cycling solution, not a tri solution. If my Edge died I could replace it with a Wahoo (it's really just there to be a way to see the metrics during the bike), but the Wahoo watch has been rumored for years without substance.
