Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Low wind now, so I'm going to try to get out soon and get down to Kyle. Weather for the next few days will relegate me to the trainer, Shooting for at least 54 to get my total for the Texas Distance Challenge to 3400.

That same weather will delay my new quiet windows for a week.

That blows. Does this ever (often?) mean additional nights on the road?

gonna rain here tomorrow, I may try to sneak out today for an hour or two after Mass but it’s not looking promising for anything other than the trainer

The numbers, the weather, and my poor, stiff, skinny, old legs are telling me that today is a Z2 fake miles day.

The group's end-of-year ride, last night, could have went better.

A group irregular, a guy with a reputation for being squirrelly at times, drifted in to another guy and may or may not have gotten his drops hooked on the other guy's straight bars. Regardless, the end result was that he went down and took out one other guy that was behind him. The squirrelly guy was the only one injured, but he got banged up pretty good - broken clavicle and concussion.

His girlfriend was not happy when she got the call and came to pick him up and blamed our "drinking game," though the tumble took place early in the ride and no one was even remotely intoxicated (nevermind that there wasn't enough drinking during the entirety of the ride to get anyone drunk). Trying to explain to the gf that he was at fault wasn't a bridge that anyone wanted to cross, though.

That’s sounds very bad. Injured squirrelly guy, angry GF, alcohol, around here could easily add up to litigation.

Oh, it's certainly not a good look. We're wondering if we'll ever see him again. He evidently broke his clavicle on a group ride 8 years ago, too (again, his fault) and she wasn't happy then, either. I've only ridden with him three times or so in the few years that I've been with the group, so he's not around often, as it is.

It clearly shows that his level of cumulative fatigue is a little high and that he should consider taking it a little easy today. Geez, can't you read?

My body tells me when I am fatigued. Weird, eh?
