Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wow that was a hard ride. Super windy. Some of the riders had medium/deep section wheels. Glad I didn’t!

New guy on today’s ride. I asked his name. I was not sure I heard it right. Carlos? No. Carless. Not sure of spelling but best name ever for a cycling advocacy guy. Right? But he drove to the ride in a Jeep that had funny rocket launcher tubes on the front, which I am guessing are for fishing rods.

Rocket launchers sounds better. The irony of the name is best left un explored

I did a little googling and found out he spells his name Carliss. I like my spelling better.

Well this is obnoxious.

My phone battery had gone to crap, so I took it in to a repair shop to get one replaced. They had one battery in stock.

Got it back and now it's not charging at all. So it's either a faulty battery or the person who did the repair didn't make a connection correctly.

Best case scenario is that I will take it back to the shop and have them look at it, and then they will take a couple of hours to fix it.

Worst case scenario is that the battery is bad and I will be totally without a phone for the next few days while they wait for another one to come in.

With all this going on means I won't be able to get a ride in today, either.

First race of the season out of the way, and we always want more. I rode it well for only being on the TT bike for 6 hours this year. Too conservative out, did OK coming back, and passed two people. Not finishing last is something that slides into the head while trying to keep power down. 9th out of 28,

45 miles/5000 ft climbing, Carpinteria to Santa Barbara and back, with a friend.

The idea was to do an 8 mile iconic climb, Gibraltar Rd. But we got turned back 5 miles up but cold temps and rain.

Great ride, great company but boy am I puny right now. Only way to get un-puny though is to go out and do it.

Welcome back, sbxx1985

Thanks Heathpack, All! . As you catch someone, weird things go through your head. I have yet to catch someone at a turn-around, but I'd still be happy I'm not last, even if they did hold me up for a bit.
