I had a driver try to run me off the road. I was riding on a rural road (highway 192 in Santa Barbara County) and there was no traffic, either way, for this jack-off.

It was a scary situation to say the least.

If I ever get my money situation right not only will I have one of those small boxes everybody keeps their face buried in 3/4 of their lives now (I won't do that) but I will have it attached to my bike and record everything that goes on around me.

Just my opinion, crazy people are everywhere, but the further west in the US you go the more crazy people get.

I cross at a light rail crossing, and when the train is coming the cars are stopped so I get out there and go across when the gate goes up. Some nut the other day beeps, and when the gate goes up takes off so he can sit at the next red light which is about a 1/8 of a mile away. And there is another light that he will definitely be sitting at after that one.
I mean where do these simps come from. Older white person. I mean nobody was even near him as he sped away like a goofball.

It's so few of these people you encounter compared to how many motorists you encounter. And most of my cycling is on the sidewalk. I would be taking my life in my hands on the street.

Guess most of Europe is less "car-centric". Smaller distances, more densely populated, more cyclists and drivers are more used to them. "Safety in numbers" as some cycling organizations like to call that phenomena.

Yep. Just a matter of selecting the right handle bar bag. I have learned that both I and the pig prefer Queen's "We are the Champions" for the first and 9th round. However the sport is probably only for those folks able to wrestle with one hand while keeping the other hand safely on the bar. I have added a slightly lower bottom cog on the rear to best handle the added weight for hills.];-o)

It helps to have the money to put to use for bike infrastructure. And Americans love their cars.

I live in area where I can get around on a bike easy. But it's the burbs, everybody has a car to match the high cost of living here.

And the seriously below normal winter temps aren't helping. Or the god awful heat and humidity in the summer.

And that is big. being more temperate. A lot of Europe doesn't get that summer heat/humidity the US does. I deal with it every summer and it's ****ing awful!

What's the bike scene like 20 miles outside of Copenhagen?

Don't know around Copenhagen, but my city gets some cold, some mild winters (around, or below freezing, cold ones being above -20 C), and hot summers (+40 C) with a rather high air humidity. More and more bike commuters, with decades of good cycling infrastructure.

However, distances aren't as great as I understand the US ones are. Here, 10 km away is considered to be quite far away. Most shopping malls are within a 5 km radius from the center. As well as schools, universities etc.

I encounter miserable people all day long. On the bike and off. I never acknowledge they exist...unless they push me too far. But on a bike I tend to let things go. On a bike, in traffic, we have too much to lose to get involved in any kind of confrontation with a motorist. We can be right, or we can get home safely.

I realise you were trying to communicate, but this was actually a blessing. It takes two to tango, etc. Arguments on the road can end in very bad ways. You’re not asking for my advice, but here it is anyway: Earbuds. Unless they scare you or they’re illegal. Seriously, music is the fastest way to zen (though I’ll admit it’s cheating). Has worked for me for 20+ years.

Check your local police webpage. Several have an address for vehicle cam submissions. Sure, they are not going to do much to a guy with one submission; but ten or twenty on the same guy, they will start, at least, increasing presence in the area.

Not blaming you or anything, but I wouldn't have taken over a whole lane at the red light. Legal or not, there are just too many drivers out there who'd get pissed off by this. They're going to pass me anyway when the light turns green (after which I'll have the whole road to myself). Better to have them pass me immediately when I'm slowly accelerating (compared to a car) from 0 to 15 (20 on a good day) than to block them only to then have them deliberately buzz me at much higher speed because they're pissed. Just saying.
