The Bills were kicking up some dust last season. The Jets however . . . what can I say. SMH

Some of us are just wired that way. I used to travel in Guatemala in the winter. Around the holidays, people would buy as much as they could afford. They were used in parades, religious ceremonies. I, of course, could afford lots. There was one festival in particular, where professional grade sky rockets were set off from the ground(a 3"pipe welded to a steel plate). We'd be strolling along and all of a sudden people were moving. Then you'd hear/feel the whump. Some of us live for that sound in close quarters.
One year my wife had an early flight New Year's Day, so we stayed in Guatemala City overnight. I awoke a little past midnight and listened for the next 45 minutes. War zone or thunderstorm. Neighborhood by neighborhood.
Good times
No, I am not a Viet Nam vet.

I'm not a Viet Nam vet either. Had a high lottery number then Tricky Dick ended the draft. Never got into fireworks or blowing stuff up. It's ok at a sporting event or 4th of July or New Year's Eve, but EVERY night, no. It's rude and inconsiderate. When I lived in the unincorporated hills there were never fireworks.

So, football. Hmm. I'm not sure there are many Puritan footballers.

I drew 169 in the last year of the draft and was quite relieved when Nixon finally ended the war. My whole family, everyone I knew, were anti-war and it was strange when I ended up in uniform with a TS clearance, detailed to the very belly of the GWB administration beast after 9/11.

My older brother and I were in the first draft lottery. My number was 305. My brother had already had his physical so he enlisted in the Coast Guard before his imminent draft notice came. He was up at The Great Lakes naval base on the morning of the first lottery ready to be sworn in when it was decided that anyone could wait for the lottery before finalizing their induction. His number was 345 and he came home the next morning.

I don't know who my father had to bribe or whatever because Coast Guard enlistments were very rare at that time. I was in college at the time and was going to apply for a deferment but never bothered after my high number.
BTW, we have a Coast Guard unit based in Peoria.

One of my cousins was trained as a sniper. He was over there and punched out an officer, got in a bit of trouble and sent home. He loved to fight.

A car accident that busted up my knee kept me from enlisting in the navy. After doing some political reading I wised up and went back to university.

I liked him probably because we had similar personalities. He grated on my Mother's nerves yet I'm her fav. Go figure.
Getting back to my point, the Coast Guard does more than guard the coast.

We had elementary, Junior High and High school. No middle school. No kindergarten either at my home district so my parents took me to another district that had it which was near my Dad's business.
When we "graduated" I didn't invite my parents. I didn't realize it was anything special. Let's face it - it wasn't. It was f***ing kindergarten.
SMH.

My dad did 28 years in USCG, after 4 years navy. He was stationed on the Pribilofs, AK before I was born, looked like quite the adventure from looking at the slides. Then DC, FLA, Italy, NC, then DC again.

AG actually wanted to join the Navy when she was younger. Her father wisely (and thankfully for me) snuffed that right out.

Evidence that I kind of know what I'm doing:
About ~1900g for the set, sans time tape and skewers.
Not light by any means, but they should be solid.
I think I should start building lower spoke count wheels. These 36°ers take so much time to lace and tension.

AG had a set laced by a friend with the valve between spokes that crossed closest to the rim...
