Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You can do eeet!

I've been as heavy as 225 in the last four years or so. I'd love to get to and stay in the low 170s in 2021.

Question for the Olds: Was there all this vaccination fuss last century? Maybe my memory is bad, but I don't remember there being much of a controversy about getting shots before the autism brouhaha.

That's what I thought. Back when I was a ute, getting immunizations to attend school was just a normal thing everyone went through. No one freaked out.

In other news, it's even white on the street now. Woe is me.

Ugh I’m up to 183 after packing on the Covid pounds. Wife and I are going on the caloric austerity program next month.

ok that was hard. Like hard hard.
Try a lower gear? Unless you were in erg mode already, then it doesn't matter what you do.

Nope. I remember lining up with my sisters to get the sugar cube which I think was for polio. Also got some shots, maybe smallpox, among others.

Had mumps, measles, polio, and small pox. Haven’t gone autistic. Stupid at times, but that’s about it.

Younger folks never had them, or knew anyone who'd had a severe case of, say, measles and died. It's like the people who say, "We didn't have seatbelts when I was a kid, and I survived!" - yeah, but the ones who didn't survive aren't here to comment, are they?

And the other thing I can tell you, as the parent of at least one kid on The Spectrum, is that the temptation to look for someone or something to blame is huge, just like looking for The Miracle Cure! that will make your autistic kid back into the normal child you expected. This makes those parents really vulnerable to charlatans telling them what they want to hear.

To be fair, I spent a hefty chunk of my day so far washing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen, rather than drinking an unfiltered, unpasteurized beer.

I think I got down to about 195 maybe 20 years ago. And I climbed a lot better than I do at 207. Mind you, I as also only 43, not 63, and my work was such that I could get in a 2 hour ride most mornings, and 5 hours on Sunday.
