Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would guess it's got to be, the place has been billed as Shangri-La for at least a dozen years now. BillyD has no intentions of moving anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Funny, Hummer thinks land north of the M-D is unfit for human habitation, at least half of the year.

Way back in the 1960s, an engineer, then working at the navy's weapons lab as China Lake, California wrote a book entitled "The 40 Knot Sailboat" full of equations and great photos of a foil borne sail boat that when scaled up to full size was predicted to reach 40 knots or 46 mph. Today, 55 years later, there is a class of 100 ft. Tris, mostly French built, that regularly reach 30 - 35 knots and seem to top out at 40-45 knots. This is spectacular performance and almost unbelievable. To date, one of these boats has crossed the Atlantic in a bit over 3 1/2 days, faster than the clipper ships and faster than most ships. In the video, the tris are traveling at 30 to 35 knots over rough water. I love it that water being thrown up turns into a fine mist.

My daughter made me hold on to some vinyl for her, but I gave away the vast majority of my collection, in addition to my B & O turntable. I have started to get rid of my CDs because everything is available online and Youtube has such amazing, tear-evoking, video of live music. My tastes run about 95% classical these days and I am shamefully addicted to the Bach oratorio.

I have never been on a racing multi bigger than a Hobie 16, not even an F33 of which there are hundreds here, let alone a really fast production boat, like a Gunboat. It must be a total hoot. I am infatuated anything that will win a Bermuda race on corrected time and not bash me up or threaten my life too much in the process.

From NYC perspective they are "Upstate NY" but honestly if you look at a map they are south-central NY State, maybe even South-East NY State.

Look at a map and see for yourself.

One of the songs we played through Tuesday is called "LOL". Underneath in parenthesis, it is helpfully subtitled "(Laugh Out Loud)". Video for your listening enjoyment.

Vinyl is the only physical media I buy anymore.

Artwork is one of the main reasons:

Yeah, if you're willing to pay a fortune, get wet and sleep deprived, and risk your life, to get there.

Yes (for a few seasons), if it's a molded composite that comes off a giant computer-controlled machine somewhere in China and costs as much as a good car.
