So I’m spending a few days on the bayou...any must see c&v shops?

I’m with a non rider, so there won’t be any pedaling.

Almost all of my girlfriends before I met my wife rode. Two were good stokers when I had a tandem. None of them worked out long term. I tried to get her into riding, she gave it a good try, but for naught.

22 years, it's worked out alright so far.

I realized we don't need everything to be in common.

Unfortunately there aren't. Seems like cycling has never been that big here, despite the flatness and good climate. Gerken's Bikes and Bicycle Michael's both do good work on older bikes, Bayou Bikes, GNO Cyclery and Roulez are more roadie shops, and there a few other small shops that cater to casual riding and commuters, but there are no "museum" shops.

I know of a law professor at Tulane who loves his bikes. A most impressive collection.

It has been a long while for me since I visited. Work kept me very busy, but I do recall bike lanes and the such.

I go to N.O. for music and food, mostly food.
A few Sugar Bowls, too. And in my younger days, too much alcohol +.
Never thought about cycling.

Might check around Tulane, next thought Metarie.

A lot of people get around N.O. on bicycles. Bikes are used more there for transportation then in other parts of the state - like Baton Rouge.

Tim at Bicycle Michael's straightened a tweaked fork for me. Couldn't find anyone in Baton Rouge who'd do it. Maybe not a C&V shop but at least they know how to work on them. It's in the Marigny neighborhood, between the French Quarter and the Bywater neighborhoods. Lots of great live music right there on the same block - seven nights a week.

Drinking with the locals in the French Quarter on Decatur. Feeding quarters into jukeboxes full of classic country and soul. Eating po boys on the way back from eating a huge lunch. Getting lucky in love and cards at the blackjack tables. Falling out of bed at the crack of noon to down pickly, spicy bloody marys so we can do it all over again.

No biking. Some trollying. Mostly stumbling and smiling.

When Gus Betat & Sons closed its doors in 1992 it had been the oldest continuously operating bike shop in the country, having opened its doors in 1887. The N. O. Bicycle Club has also been around since the 1880s, keeping the cycling flame alive for over 130 years.
